GameInformer- Guacamelee Review

GI:When Drinkbox Studios decides on a theme, it goes all the way. First showcased with kooky '50s sci-fi in its Tales from Space games (About a Blob, Mutant Blobs Attack), now the team has nailed traditional Mexican culture. Players control an average guy named Juan who is sent to the Land of the Dead by evil charro skeleton Carlos Calaca after he tries to rescue childhood sweetheart "El Presidente's Daughter." Juan becomes a powerful luchador who battles chupacabras and Day of the Dead-inspired skeletons - all while accompanied by catchy mariachi tunes. Everything is brought to life with a colorful, cartoony art style and fluid animation.

Joystiq: "The clumsy evolution of combat aside, I'd heartily recommend Guacamelee once for its devilish difficulty, again for its luchadorable charm, and one last time for its even-handed treatment of the lowly video game chicken."

EuroGamer: "Drinkbox Studios has already made a name for itself on PSN with colourful platformers like Mutant Blobs Attack. Guacamelee suggests a real step-up in terms of ambition, and that's a welcome move - even if it does perhaps come at the cost of a little polish. Like the best luchadores in the business, Guacamelee has real heart and a blazing desire to put on a good show."
