Call of Juarez: Gunslinger review: Back in the saddle | Joystiq

Added: 25.05.2013 8:18 | 2 views | 0 comments

Joystiq: "Call of Juarez has had its ups and downs, and Gunslinger isn't without its flaws, but it still pushes the series back in the right direction. Despite the frustration of the damage indicator, the worsened duel mode and a story that sort of loses its way near the end, Gunslinger is still an enjoyable experience. It's exciting and challenging, whether you're mowing down banditos in slow-mo with an engraved six-shooter or racking up 80 kill combos in arcade mode. If The Cartel made you hang up your hat, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger should give you a new reason to saddle up."

Call of Juarez Gunslinger (XBLA) | FTG Review

FTG Writes: Last years disastrous Call of Juarez: The Cartel had some decent ideas, but was a technical train wreck that appeared to doom the franchise into oblivion. With the surprise announcement of Call of Juarez Gunslinger coming as a downloadable game to Xbox Live Arcade with no fanfare, most people would have been right to write the game off. They would have been wrong.

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger Review - "Call of Juarez is Back, Better than Ever!" - Analog Addiction

Yes, the Call of Juarez franchise may have been tainted with a pretty poor sequel, but Techland came back better than ever, and delivered the best entry in the series yet. Call of Juarez: Gunslinger really puts the wild into the wild west, and shows that you dont need a full-blown sequel to right all the wrongs of your predecessor.

The Analog Shtick | Review: Call of Juarez: Gunslinger Far From The Cartel

Added: 24.05.2013 18:18 | 10 views | 0 comments

After the series unfortunate outing in modern-day Mexico in 2011s The Cartel, its no wonder people were less-than optimistic about the announcement that Call of Juarez would be going back to its old-west roots. With the oldest two games having not aged particularly well, and The Cartel having been such a disaster, there wasnt much hope that Gunslinger would become anything more than a poor cash-in on the franchises name. Luckily, it turned out to be quite a bit more than that

In-depth Review: Call of Juarez: Gunslinger - Electronic Theatre

Call of Juarez has undeniably been one of this generations most turbulent franchises. The original title was an interesting yet malnourished experience, while the sequel Bound in Blood, was a fantastic old west experience unlike any which had been seen before. The third title however, was a step too far, not only attempting to recreate the winning formula in modern times (which would have been a creative idea had it worked) but also neutering the enjoyment. Call of Juarez had climbed from respectable to top tier and fallen into disarray in just three outings; exactly where it would go from here was anyones guess.

Chad from We Got This Covered wrote: Its surprising how little the gaming industry makes use of the rich source material found within the historical Wild West. The time of cowboys, saloons, six shooters and tumbleweeds is a goldmine of interesting characters, both good and bad, not to mention settings and storylines. In fact, its almost a shame that we dont get many Western-inspired video games these days, although it could be said that the lack of over-saturation is a good thing. Then again, at least some companies have been attempting to pay homage to that era, providing us with a limited amount of great and memorable experiences like Sunset Riders, Red Dead Redemption, GUN and the above-average Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood. There arent too many to speak of, of course, but this very week has added one new title to that list of notables. That would be Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, the downloadable Xbox LIVE Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC game from Techland and Ubisoft.
