Why 'Metal Gear Solid 5' Still Isn't The Best In The Series

Added: 11.09.2015 17:17 | 7 views | 0 comments

Forbes: "With the release of Metal Gear Solid 5, one of the most storied, stalwart series in the video gaming industry comes to a close. It does so in classic, absurd style, with a sprawling, endless take on its classic stealth gameplay, a tour de force for newcomers and longtime fans alike. Its the biggest game in the series by a long shot, with by far the most intricate gameplay, most extensive weapon systems, and a sense of freedom the series has never had before. But, for me, its still not the best game Hideo Kojiima has given us yet. That honor will always go to the original Metal Gear Solid on Playstation."

If The Phantom Pain is to be the final Metal Gear Solid game, then Hideo Kojima has bid farewell to his series with a masterwork. MGS's first foray into a truly open world has served up its most in-depth and intricate gameplay, in turn creating Konami's most moreish stealth espionage title to date.

Graham at GameSpew writes: "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is the last final hurrah for Hideo Kojima, and the last breath in the (Kojima made) Metal Gear games, but rather than a final gasp, its an almighty roar. Kojima is going out with an impossibly loud bang with quite possibly the greatest open world game ever made. Im going to get straight to the point here. This is one of the greatest open world video games ever made. In a genre that has been stagnating for years under the weight of huge worlds littered with shallow side quests, minor distractions and pathetic mini-games, Kojima sweeps this cluttered table clean with The Phantom Pain and keeps on going right into the sunset. Metal Gear Solid V is a vast game, and untangling all the many little strands of detail and complexity that make up each moment of the game makes it hard for me to know where to even begin describing it."

AT: Metal Gear fans have been waiting for this a long time, and now Snake is finally back to kick more ass. When I played Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of Patriots on PlayStation 3, I remember thinking how it wouldve been cool if the mission areas were a bit more open. As it turns out, my wishes were granted. This time around, Hideo Kojima and the developers saw to it that players have all the freedom they need to carry out their tasks. In Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain Snake isnt restricted to taking one or two or three routes to his goal. Theres nearly an infinite number of ways to carry out your assignments.

MyGaming: "So I just got falcon punched in the face by the biggest troll in gaming history, Hideo Kojima. At a certain point in the game, a severely drastic situation will begin decimating your personnel. I have written this article so that anyone playing this game can avoid this very debilitating tragedy, at the cost of a spoiler. Seriously, its worth reading on."

Ken McKown writes:It has been a long and bumpy road to get here. The Metal Gear Solid series is the reason I started a website. Every entry in the series has been one step up from the last. The circle is now complete. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain may be the last entry that matters, the last directed by Hideo Kojima, it is the end of an era, and it has been an amazing ride. The Phantom Pain is a much different beast though. Taking a lot of what made the series one of my favorites, and stripping it away for more refined, and addictive game play. The end result is a masterpiece of a game that falls short on what it means to be Metal Gear.
