Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Review: Ultimate Indeed | TheHDRoom

HDRoom: Ive learned that people who play Monster Hunter are a rare breed. There is a devotion to this game that is unparalleled in any other multi-million-copy, world-wide seller. But the majority of those sales come from Japan. And as I sit here playing through the wonderful Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate on the Nintendo 3DS, my mind boggles as to why this series hasnt found the same footing here in the west. Sure, it has its fans, and having fought alongside hunters who love the game as much as I do, we here in the west are just as passionate.

Review: Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (Nintendo 3DS) | Digitally Downloaded

DD: It is not an accident that Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate released on the same day as the New Nintendo 3DS, as it is a game that tries to showcase everything that the new system is capable of (don't worry, it is still playable on older 3DS models too). In that context it does a great job of playing to the strengths of the games in the series that came before it, while trying to minimise its weaknesses. The end result is a memorable adventure best shared with friends.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate review | Digital Trends

MNJ: Hand Of Fate from Australian developer Defiant Development is a tough game to put into any one genre, as it holds deck building elements of games like Magic The Gathering, and RPG elements and a combat style something like Shadow Of Mordor, which sounds complicated, but in fact is so well amalgamated it comes together beautifully. It is very much a game within a game as you are dealt cards while choosing what path you wish to follow, allowing you to carve out your own adventure as you go. A sort of DD style tabletop game that comes to life before your eyes as you are suddenly thrust into battle with all manner of beasts, goblins and bandits while trying to carve a pathway to the end. You will spend most of your time sitting at the table of a battle hardened dealer, who tells you that you have passed the thirteen gates to get here, he refuses none to sit at his table but only one will live in this battle between life and death. Honestly looking into the eyes of this weary look...
