Denis Murphy writes- What happened to Insomniac Games? Between 1998 and 2000 they had my attention fixed on their Spyro the Dragon trilogy. Though I did take time out to play and finish Final Fantasy VIII over 98', a lot of my time went into Spyro the Dragon and its two sequels. Insomniac Games then moved on to the Ratchet and Clank series. I liked it, but never quite got into it as much as I did with Spyro.

NGB Wrote: "After showing much potential early on, looking to be a potential system seller, Sunset Overdrive ends up being a missed opportunity for Insomniac and Microsoft. The core gameplay is fun, but what surrounds it is very much lacking in quality. Theres something there, it just needs to be built and expanded on if there is to be a sequel somewhere down the line."

HITC Tech says: "This isn't your regular, dark, brooding, miserable apocalypse however. Insomniac Games have spun that common trope on its head and delivered the most fun you could possibly ever imagine in a time of world-ending mutant outbreaks."

Can Insomniac's stylish blasting translate to online?. We're well used to the fact that modern games more or less have to possess a multiplayer side - and equally resigned to the fact that sometimes, they feel like they've been tacked on as some form of box-ticking exercise, or conversely, form the main body of the game with a desultory, unsatisfactorily short single-player mode providing scant accompaniment. But with Sunset Overdrive's Chaos Squad, Insomniac has mostly navigated that often tricky equation.

Sunset Overdrive, above anything else, is a game about having fun. You might look at it and think its primarily a third person shooter and youre not necessarily wrong, but really its more about having fun moving around in the world. Insomniac has created a game where the entire environment is a playground for you to bounce, grind and swing on. Every single item scattered throughout the city gives you an opportunity to keep moving and while it might look complicated, its actually incredibly easy to pull off amazing stunts and put together long chains.

"Sunset Overdrive is Insomniac Games opus; I say that not to imply that its perfect, but rather I mean that it is what Insomniac has been building up to as a developer for the last 15 or so years."

| Post-natal progression: 5 ways Insomniac could update Sunset Overdrive after release

New-gen offers developers a far easier ride when it comes to updating a "finished" product. Where older consoles stuck with the tried-and-tested DLC packs and weighty, infrequent patches, more fluid online architecture means changes can be made as often as devs feel the need. Take Sunset TV, which sees Insomniac community manager Brandon Winfrey's weekly update videos beamed directly into your game as you play - it's a way of keeping you updated on the game seamlessly and free of fuss. It seems Insomniac is keen to embrace this particular digital revolution, so where else could they take Sunset Overdrive?

In todays video game market, the highest-selling games are typically military shooters. Ones that require the player to hide behind cover, take pot-shots at enemies with realistically-rendered weaponry, and move along a guided path that hopefully tells a decent story along the way. Sunset Overdrive is not that game, and thats exactly what Insomniac Games wants you to know. Overdrive starts you off as a janitor for a giant corporation called Fizzco, which just released a new energy drink called OverCharge Delirium XT. The company is hosting a youth-filled EDM party in Sunset City, where young adults party and drink the orange caffeinated beverage. It doesnt take long before everything goes to hell, and those who drank it turn into hideous orange mutants and start to chase you down. EDM music turns into punk rock guitar riffs as you run for your life.
