It's tough not to see Sunset Overdrive as a reaction to what's come before it. Insomniac Games, which for the past 20 years has been making games almost exclusively for PlayStation, has been busy churning out a trio of Resistance titles for the past seven. The games are heavy, gruesome slogs through barren landscapes and thousands of enemies, full of greys, browns, and the stink of death. Sunset Overdrive, by contrast, is described as an "awesomepocalypse". It won't be brown.

So much for rekindling the platformer genre.

Last year Insomniac Games released Fuse, a solid but generic coop shooter that lacked any charisma or personality and never stood out from the crowd.
