Palmer Sturman: By now, youve probably heard that Lords of the Fallen borrows liberally from Dark Souls. Dont be so quick to dismiss it, though. Lords of the Fallen brings plenty to the table that allows it to stand on its own two feet, though it may not ever quite leave the shadow of its mentor. Lords of the Fallen chooses to stand out in other ways, defined instead by its more hack-and-slash oriented combat, Diablo-like loot style, and its unique approach to experience and stat gain that, while similar to Dark Souls, adds multipliers through a system that can prove to be quite a gamble, especially early on. Though Lords of the Fallen may cater to a more casual audience and probably wont keep all Dark Souls diehards engaged, it presents a great alternative for people hesitant to jump into Dark Souls high-stakes hardcore approach. Its a great entry point with a couple of memorable characters, and stunning graphics.

Excerpt: "Charles Caleb Colton wrote, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". In many games, imitation can be a crutch to make itself recognizable but completely unmemorable. While Lords Of The Fallen has enough of it's own personality to differentiate itself, comparisons will be made to BANDAI NAMCO's other published title, Dark Souls. And that's not a bad thing."

G3AR: "Its easy to be mislead by Lords of the Fallen. Judging it by demonstrations of gameplay weve seen up until its release, you would think that its a hack-and-slash version of Dark Souls (think Dark Souls inspired Darksiders or Dark Soulsiders if you will), but you would be gravely mistaking. While the game is touted as Dark Souls for noobs, it is still very much unforgiving, and in the words of the games executive producer, Tomasz Gop, the aim was to make the game challenging but accessible, approachable. So expect to die. A lot. Just less than you would in Dark Souls."

James of Twinfinite writes "Bosses in Lords of the Fallen often have some sort of elemental property which they rarely use. The Beast has poisonous abilities which have next to no effect and the Champions flame empowerment is nothing more than a damage boost. The Annihilator, Lords of the Fallens lightning-fueled menace who looks distinctively like the Uruk Hai which blew up the wall surrounding Helms deep bucks this trend. His abilities are all centered around lightning and his big mace. Think of him as a rather evil version of Thor, only without the blond hair and desire to save Natalie Portman."
