Defiance is a new IP designed to tie-in to the SyFy TV series of the same name, which premieres in the UK on April 16. The game sold the vast majority of its copies on Xbox 360, with 76 per cent of sales attributed to Microsoft's platform.
Square Enix's clings on to second place for the third week running, with EA's FIFA 13 also remaining in fourth.
3DS-exclusive Luigi's Mansion 2 remains fifth for its second week, while Epic Games' Gears of War: Judgement drops three places to sixth.

Tomb Raider also holds strong at No.2 in this week's Top 40, recording only a 34 per cent decline in sales. The week's major new entry is Trion Worlds' multiplayer shooter Defiance at No.3, although it's likely to have a fairly strong digital component to its overall sales figure.
EA's FIFA 13 isn't going anywhere and holds firm at No.4, followed by Luigi's Mansion 2 at No.5, Gears of War: Judgment at No.6, Black Ops 2 at No.7 and Assassin's Creed 3 at No.8.
Skylanders Giants jumps six places to No.9, whilst a seven place leap for NFS Most Wanted sees the racer climb...
