WWF/E video games have been around since the NES, highlighting the stars of the day like Randy Macho Man Savage, Andre the Giant, and that mystery burst of air that somehow lifted and bodyslammed Andre at Wrestlemania III (formerly known as Hulk H-... I mean, burst of air, yeah) in various matches. Theyre that unique, vaudeville crossover of competition and storytelling, which makes them ideal for the video game world. And theyre all under the 2K banner for the third year now, so we can get regular yearly updates like other sports and sports entertainment franchises.

At first glance, the mere concept of a Telltale adventure in a Minecraft world, which emphasizes player freedom and is devoid of voice-acting, might seem like a stretch in terms of narrative and dialogue choice. But similar criticisms could have been lobbed at The Lego Movie, yet that movie was able to craft a dimensional cross-over extravaganaza with a titular character voiced by Chris Pratt that was altogether a favorite for both fans and critics. Minecraft: Story Mode aims to do the same thing in the video game space, with the player controlling a protagonist named Jesse, voiced by Patton Oswalt, who must save the world from an Ender Dragon.

There's something hilarious about hearing a person with a British accent say "Bro." The devs for the game are British, and I've seen the game twice now, so I've gotten a double dose of what feels like terms that ought to be American machismo-isms (machisms?) of "throw your bro up there", "bros need to stick together", or the game's tagline"Bros before foes."delivered in what seems to be a very "un-bro-like" cultural dialect.

Divinity: Original Sin succeeded because it captured the essence of old-school RPGs with progressive mechanics. It brought the CRPG genre to the 21st century in a way like few other games, and that success has resulted in a sequela sequel that was funded in a single day on Kickstarter. The Kickstarter page briefly details origin stories, competitive quests, and skill crafting; important mechanics I got to see in action at PAX Prime.

Belowwith its cavernous visuals, enveloped in saturated shadows and indigo hues, generously and ominously expanded on a wide screen at its stationstood out at Microsoft's pre-PAX indie showcase without needing to make any sound. A diminutive warrior wielding a sword and shield, wandered about the darkened bowels of the earth, precariously stepping into the unknown with the faint light of a torch. Sometimes he would find patches of soft grass swaying by a ledge or a refreshing spring made by streams trickling along the rocks. Raising a lantern against a circular wall revealed glowing pictographs that reveal the unspoken narrative. Spelunking truly never looked so gorgeous.

Puzzle games don't have to reinvent the wheel to succeed, but a creative mechanic goes a long way. Case in point: Mushroom 11. One look and it appears to be a game in which the player controls a giant blob organism and pushes it along with the mouse. There's only a small bit of truth to that premise, and my hands-on time with Mushroom 11 at PAX Prime's Indie Megabooth revealed how the game's control scheme helps create a unique puzzle experience.
