Too many games fall into the trap of growling monsters just off camera or icky rusted environments for either approach to really be effective anymore, so its pretty refreshing when a game manages to create atmosphere and mystery while providing a fresh world to experience and explore. You can't quite go back after playing Dark Souls. Sitting down to start a four-hour play session of The Witcher 3, there were a few things I expected. The numerous gameplay trailers and showcases had left little for me to discover on my own, a thought that immediately crossed my mind as the familiar opening sequence loaded up on the Xbox One, pre-gold build. Geralt, and the world of Novigrad, looked as spectacular in person as it has on the internet but that was essentially where the similarities ended.

Chalgyr's Game Room writes: Slitherine publishes a lot of war games, but Sovereignty: Crown of Kings feels different for several reasons. The most notable is the rich fantasy setting it uses to excellent effect. I dig a nice war or science-fiction strategy title, but nothing gets me quite as interested in as good high fantasy setting. However, the setting would not mean much of the mechanics did not back up the strategic elements. Thankfully, even in Early Access, things are looking really good.
