Nicola Ardron: "It would be safe to say that Beyond Eyes is a game that most people will struggle to appreciate. Its core premise is one that I suspect the majority of players will not hold in regard, and even if they do, the manifestation of that idea through the pace of Raes walking makes that harder to understand. Its a lovely idea, presented in a beautiful, dreamlike way, however it comes at the expense of engrossing gameplay. "

Remakes, remasters and re-releases. Im sure weve all had just about as many of them as were able to stomach. If I have to play another re-release of an old game, I said not weeks ago, Ill cut one or all of the junior staff. But then something comes along to challenge everything. That thing is Rare Replay. Its more than just a collection of the companys old games its a pure celebration of Rares storied, 30 year-long legacy.

| Streets of Rage Retrospective Review
Added: 17.08.2015 4:18 | 10 views | 0 comments
A slowly building soundtrack plays over a dark cityscape. Text starts to crawl up the screen telling the story of a once peaceful citys fall into despair as a criminal syndicate takes root. A thumping baseline kicks in as were told of three cops who are looking to free their city as they risk it all on the Streets of Rage. The introduction to this Mega Drive classic is so strong that it is firmly embedded into the minds of everyone who played it. Streets of Rage was published in 1991 by SEGA as their answer to Capcoms arcade master piece Final Fight. In fact this home console beat-em-up was such a strong title that some may go so far as to say it surpassed it.

HG:
When I told Matt that we were going to see a new adventure titled Kathy Rain this Gamescom, he immediately said That must be a detective story, and it was.
Kathy Rain is a self-confessed love letter of its lead designer Joel Staaf Hästö to adventure games from the nineties. Actually, it might even be a love letter to the nineties itself, a time which lends itself far better for a good detective story than the world of today. Budding detectives could not look everything up on the Internet, cellphones were a rarity and to go somewhere you mostly used your own navigation skills.

HDR:
Compilation games dont come around very often. When they do, they generally take the form of a Game of the Year Edition that includes a popular game and its previously released DLC. On occasion one will ship that includes several full games in a single value-priced package. These are normally just marketing gimmicks to grab some quick cash from people who didnt catch the games the first time around. Thats much the case with Microsofts Rare Replay too, although the massive Xbox One package is actually worth the price.
