Review: The Raven Legacy of a Master Thief Chapter 1: The Eye Of The Sphinx - Electronic Theatre

As production values at the high-end of videogame development increase so to do the visual quality of smaller productions. Theres an argument that plot delivery is no more accomplished now than it was in the early 90s, that the interactive entertainment medium is not limited but technology but rather imagination, but The Raven Legacy of a Master Thief proves otherwise. This is a videogame experience that lives and dies on its story and the characters therein, and it would easily have suffered without such personality in its visual and aural presentation.

SnackBarGames write:
The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief is as much an interactive detective mystery as it is a point-and-click adventure game. Pairing an interactive crime story like this with an adventure game used to be common, and The Raven does it well enough to show why.

Ready-Up writes:
'The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief is an Agatha Christie inspired whodunnit by rising star of the adventure gaming world King Art Games, who recently proved themselves with The Book of Unwritten Tales. The Raven follows the fortunes of Anton Jacob Zellner, a mild-mannered Swiss police constable on the verge of retirement, who finds himself caught up in an epic battle of wits with the eponymous master thief. Or at least a man claiming to be him. You see, The Raven was supposedly shot and killed years ago by French inspector LeGrand who went on to build his reputation on that coup.'

The Register: ''With the heatwave apparently set to give way to stormy weather, it might be about time to batten down the hatches and get comfy with a new game. This week were off for a walk in the forest with Pikmin 3, tracking down a master thief in The Raven and getting overwhelmed by choice in Valves Dota 2.''

Jae Lee writes: Ive had a long and rather tumultuous relationship with point and click adventure games as I was growing up. I remember playing games like Grim Fandango and becoming enchanted by the world it presented, all the while struggling with the aspect of actually playing the damn thing. The characters, plot and setting were all spectacularly portrayed in painstaking detail with genius level creativity, but I never managed to finish it. I would get stuck not knowing the solution to a puzzle and eventually just call it quits, moving on to other games. The cycle continued with various other point and click games as I managed to finish only a fraction of the games I started from the genre.

GodisaGeek: "The Raven is everything you could want from a point click adventure, but the problem is that not many people want a point click adventure. The game excels in nearly all aspects of the genre and adds a few fresh ideas but, in the end, it may struggle to succeed due to the aversion some people have to a game of this type. But with its simple UI, logical puzzles, fantastic plot and beautiful setting, its an excellent place to start for those who have never dabbled in an adventure game. This first chapter in The Raven saga is a class act from start to finish, and I simply cannot wait for the next instalment."
