On the surface, Rayman Legends doesnt do a huge amount to innovate beyond what was accomplished in Origins. The graphics are sharper, the art more imaginative, and the level design even crazier. The true genius of Legends, and something that Origins didnt quite manage, is perfectly capturing the essence of what makes platforming games so fun. From speedruns to collecting hidden treasure, multiplayer fun to boss fights, there is an incredible variety to Legends that far surpasses its predecessor. Everything is polished to perfection, and a screenshot from any point in the game wouldnt look out of place in an art gallery. This really is an amazing accomplishment, and its difficult to think what could be meaningfully added to the experience in the inevitable sequel, beyond more content. This is the greatest platformer released in a long time, and one of the top releases of the year.

Rayman Origins was a reboot of the Rayman franchise that was welcomed by both fans and critics alike. Undoubtedly aping the success of Nintendos New Super Mario Bros., Ubisoft breathed new life into a character that has had some very public peaks and troths, dispelling the notion that this world was an also-ran and placing it well and truly into the league of contenders. With Rayman Legends, Ubisoft have created a wonderfully modern platform videogame that rivals its inspiration.
