Retro Redux: Why Retro Matters

Added: 29.04.2015 4:00 | 8 views | 0 comments

I have a personal attachment to the classic gaming scene. I’ve been a (broke, but still trying) collector of games since 1999, when I would save the quarters and dimes of my lunch money to hit the local Funcoland for new games at a dollar or less a pop. I’ve always wanted something "new" to play, no matter the age.

Retro Redux: 10 Classic Protagonists That Sucked

For every Spyro and Mario, there's an awful knock-off and a ridiculous idea someone somehow convinced a marketing exec to throw money at. Sometimes, those ideas even get multiple rounds of money, whether or not they deserve the first fistful (because market paradigm shifts and game-changing empowering of the brand and such, I guess?).

Play Blackpool Arcade, Indie Retro expo tickets still available

Added: 23.04.2015 23:17 | 9 views | 0 comments

Dealspwn: Gaming fans should get themselves up north for the excellent Play Blackpool event running from May 2nd to May 4th. The show is an absolute bonanza for fans of all things retro, indie and arcade. The show floor will once again be packed with consoles from every generation and fully unlocked classic arcade cabinets (do not insert coin!), featuring a classic selection of games for you to try. The console range is incredible and you're bound to find a few that you never even knew existed. Or maybe you'll finally get to play on something you've had your eye on for a while. Last year, I got to try out Nintendo's ancient Virtual Reality headset, the Virtual Boy which was actually very impressive considering it was in people's houses in 1995.

Retro Redux: Classic Gaming(Stop)

Added: 21.04.2015 22:30 | 10 views | 0 comments

GameStop recently announced they were going to start accepting classic games and consoles for resale, possibly seeing the (to me) surprising revival of consoles like the PSOne and the NES. As much as I like the idea of being able to walk into my local mall and see games like Clash At Demonhead and Aero the Acrobat alongside modern shooters and AAA franchises, I’m actually torn about it both nostalgically and economically.
