Retro review: Final Fantasy IX
Added: 22.10.2014 3:12 | 1 views | 0 comments
"No ending will ever feel truly satisfying if done well enough and this had its flaws. However, the game has stood the test of time and aged well, frozen in time and context but deservedly so. Whilst this will never be the first game on any RPG fans favorite list, its charm and traditional feel will mean it will never be far down the list. Final Fantasy IX is like a warm embrace of an old friend that hasnt changed a bit and theyre all the better for it."

Michael Crisman writes, "Yeah, yeah, everybody makes their lists about scary, creepy, or flat-out weird games to play each October and were not about to buck the trend. But were going to assume youre a retro gamer whos read enough to know the big franchises everybody else writes about. Because if youve picked up a controller in the last fifteen years, you know about Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Dino Crisis. Youve played Sweet Homes NES translation, youve watched an Eternal Darkness: Sanitys Requiem long play on YouTube, and if some scarf-wearing hipster starts harping on Fatal Frame again, you will stuff his camera where the flash wont illuminate. Where does one go from there? Well, weve got some ideas with which to season your braincase if you care to join us."

This week on Retro Halloweekend we're highlighting the PC adventure game, I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream. The evil supercomputer, AM, has destroyed all of humanity except a few who it has tortured for the past 109 years. Will the humans be able to fight back against AM, or will their spirits break from being trapped in an inescapable hell.
The title was based on the short story of the same name and so we decided to write a little story of our own.

Ryan from Awesome Games writes: 'After dominating the PSOne market with the exceptional Resident Evil series, Devil May Cry was one of Japanese developer Capcoms earlier projects on the shiny new PlayStation 2, and it truly showcased the potential of the system. To label it as a hack and slash would simply not do it justice, Devil May Cry (henceforth referred to as DMC) represented a stylistic experiment that relied on the juxtaposition of seemingly disparate ideas which made up the formula for great success.'
