CGM: When it comes to gameplay, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is undoubtedly the most polished and enjoyable entry in the series. Its a shame, however, that it entirely abandons the eccentricities, zaniness, and terrific storytelling that this franchise is known for. This doesnt feel like a Metal Gear game, but rather an entirely new project that series creator Hideo Kojima so obviously wanted to make. Its just simply called Metal Gear Solid.

IGN: Armello never seems better than its beginning, with a lush animated video of animals in a medieval fantasy world. A wolf warrior holds a bloody sword, a lion king descends into darkness, a bear priestess awakens. It looks as good as a digital board game should, and beyond that its rules are clear and its tutorial is an effective introduction. But it lacks a driving purpose; it has no strategic hook. More damning, though, is that Armello doesnt encourage enough interaction between its players - and thats a huge problem for any board game, digital or physical.

One Piece is a giant, sprawling, action mega-epic, whether in comics or anime, and it needs something to match when brought to gaming. The sheer volume of characters, places and events from the series eighteen-year run can be overwhelming, and yet it keeps on barelling along getting bigger and more chaotic with each new plot point and weird character. Making a game that comprises all of One Piece is not a small task and the Pirate Warriors series has done a good job of keeping up with it so far. Now One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 has come along to not only retell the entire One Piece story from start to present, but also add in a free-form second quest as well.

Telltale games has a good problem with their Tales from the Borderlands series. The problems that its so good, and the bar keeps getting set higher and higher with each episode. The most recent, Escape Plan Bravo, is the weakest episode released, but that doesnt mean the episode isnt good its great but some filler moments weigh the overall story down.

Mad Max may wind up a victim of its busy release window, but it doesnt deserve to. Its a bombastic blast of exhilarating vehicular combat and open-world destruction, only slightly marred by uninspired on-foot fighting and limited ambitions when it comes to scope. It may not be the most refined open-world title out there, but it never gets too pretentious and crucially thriving in the wasteland is simply great fun.
