Digimon All-Star Rumble (2014) Review | FilmGamesEtc

Digimon has always strived to be as relevant in popular culture as other anime/game series, but the franchise has ultimately played second fiddle to Pokemon since the very beginning. That being said, Pokemons success can be attributed to its basic, simplistic but inherently addictive formula, one which has needed very little modification or change since its conception over 15 years ago. Upon seeing Pokemons mainstream popularity, acclaim and success with Pokemon Red and Blue, Nintendo made sure to replicate that same model again and again, to this very day the franchise remains one of the companys best sellers. The problem is, while Digimon succeeded in rivalling Pokemons success as an animated series, the video game counterparts have always been lacking, subpar or severely underpublicized. | Digimon All-Star Rumble - PS3 Review | Chalgyr's Game Room

Chalgyr's Game Room writes:
I grew up on Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! and still play the latter online today. Digimon sort of fell into that same area, but was never quite as interesting to me. I followed along now and again, but the property never reached must-have status for me, despite a generally fond impression of it all. There had been talk in some corners about new Digimon games coming to the west - unfortunately the one we got, All-Star Rumble, is fun but mud puddle shallow. That is not to say you cannot splash around in it and have a good time, but it runs out of content and tricks fairly quickly.
