Saints Row: Gat Out Of Hell Review [The Metropolist]

Added: 20.01.2015 3:11 | 4 views | 0 comments

Saints Row: Gat out of Hell kicks off with some really brilliant jokes (a juju board that laughs at you by spelling out H-A-H-A-H-A-H-A-H-A), and pretty quickly launches you, in the form of Johnny Gat and Kinzie Kensington, into Hell with the plan to punch Satan right in between the eyes. Its a sort of hallucinogenic hybrid of the best bits of an open world shooter and Arkham City, with jokes scattered through willy-nilly and a musical sequence. If that sounds weird, its because this is a weird game. If that sounds brilliant, its because this is a brilliant game. If that sounds inconsistent well, yeah, Gat out of Hell is a bit of an inconsistent game.

GB: "Saints Row IV took the Third Street Saints to their inevitably insane conclusion. The franchise started as a more lighthearted GTA clone, found its wacky identity with the sequel, went further with dildo bats and celebrity cameos in 2011s Saints Row: The Third, and threw superpowers in the mix two years later with the fourth entry. Fans started the series by drinking 40s to gain health, but by the end of IV they were controlling the President of the United States as he befriended Rowdy Roddy Piper and sprinted up the sides of skyscrapers. Going forward, Volition would have to amp up the craziness even more and freshen up the setting if they wanted to keep the franchise from going stale. They've done just that with Gat out of Hell, but it still fails to reinvigorate the series thanks to nearly identical gameplay."

Five things were excited to see in Gat out of Hell

GameZone: "Easily two of my favorite characters from the Saints Row franchise, Gat out of Hell lets you play as either, or both, in your adventure to save the boss from the depths of hell. Johnny Gat is a brash, loud-mouthed, hot-headed Saint with an itchy trigger finger. Comparatively, a bit more reserved, but perhaps equally as cocky, Kinzie is not without her own sense of sarcasm and wit. Were excited to see how this dynamic unfolds as the two journey through hell together."

VB: "Publishers are figuring out that they can get more attention for their downloadable content if they sell it as a standalone product. Thats what publisher Deep Silver is attempting with Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell, and its time to find out if it works. Its a $20 game that follows the story of a pair of Saints Row gang members traveling to the literal hell to save their boss (who is also the President of the United States and the character you played as in the previous Saints Row games). While that sets up a different world and story than its most recent predecessor, Gat Out of Hell shares a core with Saints Row IV. So the question I came into this game with was simple: Did developer Volition make enough game for Gat Out of Hell to stand on its own?"

Saint's Row IV: Gat Out of Hell Re-elected Review - STN

STN: Why arent comedies held in the same regard as deep story-driven titles? Why are tears of sadness worth more than tears of laughter? Thats the question I had at the end of Saints Row IV Re-Elected and Gat Out of Hell. A complex narrative, and a world full of lore, is great when youre in the right mood, but what happens if you just want to kick back and laugh? What happens when you just want to play dress up and shoot things in new and interesting ways? Well, the answer to that is Saints Row IV; a game that puts the fun back in funny.
