| Kickstart Aegis Defenders, a Miyazaki-esque Metroidvania With Tower Defense Combat
Added: 02.08.2014 7:13 | 18 views | 0 comments
Hardcore Gamer: Nowadays, you're most likely to hear the phrase "tower defense" preceded by the phrase "ugh, not another." Between indies, flash developers, and even some big publishers, the subgenre feels more than a little played out. But while basic tower defense games feel rather stale, it seems like there are endless possibilities in using tower defense sensibilities in genres other than Real-Time-Strategy. Hybrid games like Sanctum 2 and Orcs Must Die have found a lot of success using tower mechanics for more action-oriented play. Aegis Defenders has clearly taken these successes to heart to build its frenetic fusion of platforming and lane defense

| Dark Souls 2: Crown of the Sunken King review | Eurogamer

It's a strong start for this series of add-on chapters for Dark Souls 2, then. There are no standout battles - save, perhaps, for the grim final encounter - but the cumulative effect of its fights, puzzles and secrets is memorable: Sanctum City and its offshoot areas lodge in the mind like so many of this series' locales.
It's exciting to see the team return to the ingenious, interlocking layout of Demon's Souls and the first Dark Souls and there are enough novel ideas to be found in this shantytown of pillars, temples and chipped blocks to reassure you that this is a team that has run out of neither inspiration nor vigour.

Owen Hibbert of Entertainment Buddha writes: "A Story About My Uncle is the debut title from Gone North Games published by indie machine Coffee Stain Studios. Yes, that would be the same studio responsible for the ridiculous and somewhat infamous game, Goat Simulator. They are also responsible for the excellent Sanctum series, so its not all a joke. Their latest game focuses you the player, on a young boys journey across the unknown to find his incredibly cool Uncle Fred. I find that I like to see more than the game itself when I start up any title, and so I always have to browse around the menu first. Normally, this becomes a perfect basis for deciding on whether the game is for me. Seeing how much depth a developer puts into the games menus often shows its worth, so I was most pleased to see an unlockables option. It seemed to feature various cheats, one of which; was called Goat Mode, which came as no surprise. There were others but I wont spoil them, all are unlocked by...
