CCC Says: "First of all, the entire Skylanders idea is pure business genius. Toys for Bob has created a franchise so wildly successful that even the likes of Disney has emulated their coveted product. Think about it, Skylanders preys on the human need to collect things, its marketed to children but is playable by gamers of any age, and (the real hallmark of the series) it is truly fun to play. This combination has catapulted the success of the franchise into the gaming stratosphere, making it a mainstay of the yearly expected release schedule. But, as with any game series, Skylanders must be able to deliver new gameplay experiences in an ever expanding world, lest they fall by the wayside to newer and fresher IPs."

The first week is chock full of winners, with Super Smash Bros. leading the way for the handheld market, NBA 2K15 and Skylanders Trap Team continuing its franchises in earnest, and Alien: Isolation plus DriveClub bringing two new IPs to the fold. Microsoft will also be handing various full editions for Dead Rising 3, Forza Motorsport 5, and Ryse.

Digital Chumps: "Trap Team is a long game with tons of content to explore that could easily last weeks or longer. Yes, $75 is a lot for a videogame, but as a value proposition it is a pretty good deal since you get a portal, two toys, two traps, and what may be the most polished game for children ever made."

The Escapist: "Trap Team delivers a new gimmick on top of an old gimmick and does it damn well. The strong scriptwriting and voice work keep both adults and children interested in the story, even if you have to spend a lot of money to get the full effect."

GI: "Adding this loud-mouthed antihero to the playable character pool is just one of many ways that developer Toys for Bob turns Trap Team into the best Skylanders game to date. While the gameplay core of this annualized series remains largely unchanged, the functionality tied to Kaos (and the 40-plus other playable villains) adds an enjoyable layer of strategy to combat, inspiring collectors like me to scour levels for hidden areas that could contain chance encounters with these baddies."
