Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Review {Critically Sane}

Critically Sane: "Nearly a decade since its release, some of the shine has worn off. In fact it is easy, and somewhat en vogue, to be dismissive of Microsofts second big shooter franchise. After all, it was in many ways patient zero for what many came to think of as what was wrong with game development during the last generation. Dull color palette? Check. Big, bruising meathead soldiers? Check. Clearly-staged cover-based shooting arenas? Check. Its all there and, while not the originator of any of those features, Gears of War was the most high profile and successful game to utilize them all so liberally. But dismissing Gears of War is ignoring the fact that it was massively popular, spawned three sequels, and inspired countless copycats of varying quality. Critically acclaimed titles like Uncharted, Spec Ops: The Line, and even Mass Effect 2 owe much to Gears of Wars design. Gears laid a groundwork that defined a generation."

Samuel at GameSpew writes: "The party is in full swing next door and the drone of those infernal speakers has shaken you awake for the last time. Your neighbours have pushed you too far this time; the only option is to set off on a party-induced killing spree across America in search of some peace and quiet. Developed by Pinokl Games and published by tinyBuild, Party Hard is a quirky stealth-based puzzle game that is lovely to look at but at times quite frustrating in spite of its colourful gameplay."

Emily at GameSpew writes: "After much anticipation, Until Dawn finally graced the living rooms of UK residents on 28 August this year. This was not my first encounter with the dreaded teen-slasher however; Id played the demo at EGX 2014 a piece chosen to include a certain ghost which springs out of nowhere to frighten the bejesus out of us and frighten it did.
Finally, after many years of yelling at the television and watching dejectedly as horror film stars investigate a noise rather than running away, we can prove that in that situation we would do a thousand times better. Or not, so I found out. Having completed it in 8.5 hours, my cocky-but-cautious play-through lead to the death of five out of eight protagonists and one dog. Whoops. And irritatingly I ended up making the same mistakes that are typical of your average horror film; dont touch anything, dont split up, etc. But, hey, when youve got eight teenagers partying on top of an icy mountain in the middle of nowh...
