USGamer: Like so many games spun off from Spike Chunsoft's Mystery Dungeon series, Etrian Mystery Dungeon takes a while to get going. DTOID: Mashups are often born purely for fanservice-related reasons, and as you can probably guess, the results are mixed. For instance, it would be tough for an RPG developer to make an action game based on two different puzzle properties, but odder mixes have been done in the past. While the news of this union was certainly exciting for fans, no one knew exactly what to expect.

Etrian Odyssey is a well-known franchise among 3DS-owning dungeon-crawler enthusiasts; Spike Chunsoft's Mystery Dungeon series has had a crossover outing on the 3DS before in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity.
