Horror Spooky : Every year, we are treated to the Spike Video Game Awards. This annual awards show is, unfortunately, one of the biggest representations of the gaming industry. Year after year, the show disappoints and outright embarrasses the gaming community with its stupidity and disrespectful attitude toward the medium that allows it to exist. Film buffs complain about the Oscars, TV people are always ranting about nominees getting shafted, but there is no other medium stuck with an awards show quite as terrible as what is now known as VGX

This is a cancer on our industry. It is the public face that we present to others, and it does a disservice to the progress we have made as a medium. Games have a lot to offer. Spike aired its reformatted VGX awards show yesterday online, and millions of gamers tuned in to see their favorite entertainment medium celebrated. This year Spike opted for a much timate feel, ditching the auditorium-style award show laden with celebrity guests for a more low key studio setting. VGX 2013 was supposed to be a tribute to the best games, studios, and experiences of the year, and the new format was supposed to provide a clearer focus on what gamers love, but the inclusion of one Hollywood personality derailed the entire show, and turned it into a laughing stock on the Internet.
