StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm Review | Game Over Online

Game Over Online: "I havent read my own Wings of Liberty review in some time, but I seem to recall writing something about Blizzard taking the low-risk approach to Starcraft II evolutionary, not revolutionary. They had a game in Starcraft 1 that had millions of fans the world over, even a decade after it had come out. Are people still leaguing the first CC? Still playing the first Resident Evil? The original Doom? No, theyre not, not in any great numbers. So why would Blizzard risk alienating those players? Why would they do anything more than improve the game cosmetically, create a few new units while tweaking others, and leave most of the game alone? The answer is they wouldnt, and they didnt, not for Wings of Liberty, and not for Heart of the Swarm. So Im giving it exactly the same rating."

As far as reputation goes, Blizzard has a pretty stellar one. People line up out the door for their games and ask for more with a smile on their face. The company starts off 2013 with releasing a much anticipated Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm. An expansion set for one of the most iconic strategy games that brings the Zerg, and their enigmatic and now outcast leader Kerrigan to the forefront. Is it worth picking up the fight or should you let this one slide?

GIZORAMA - The decision to split StarCraft II into three games caused quite a bit of an uproar when it was announced years ago. Fears of a less than full experience raged in the community. When the first game, Wings Of Liberty, came out, fears were somewhat quelled. Wings of Liberty was a full fledged campaign and paid the deepest homages possible to the gameplay of its predecessor. Three years later the second game in the trilogy, Heart of the Swarm, is finally out and it brings new units to multiplayer, a 20+ mission campaign, and tweaks to the UI (most of which are patched into Wings of Liberty without need of Heart of the Swarm). It is actually kind of nice to get added content in the form of old school pc expansion packs rather than the piecemeal DLC this consoles generation has shoved down our throats.

In the end, HotS was a greatly enjoyable ride with a lot of questionable content. The story of revenge was really dark, but it did a great job of showing how the Zerg think and gave them more personality than you would think they could have. Unfortunately, HotS has a large price tag for those that aren't that interested in the single player campaign.
