Terraria PS3 Review (GamingBolt)

GB: "Terraria is a unique 2D side scrolling sandbox platforming game that was inspired by Minecraft. For those who played Minecraft can easily become friends with Terraria since the concept is for the most part the same. There is no end goal to the game other than to live, create, survive and just have fun."

Gi - It feels wonderful to finally say that Terraria, a game where players can just as easily be attacked by giant flying eyeballs as they can build a house out of gold, is available on consoles. Though taking some inspirational cues from Minecraft with its emphasis on resource collecting and item crafting, Terraria truly is a unique experience unto itself. For two years the game has been entertaining hordes of PC players and now it has finally found a home on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Obviously some adjustments have been made from mouse and keyboard to controller but is the magic still there?

EGM: "As a game, I think Terraria shares a lot of personality traits with the worlds it randomly generates. Sometimes they arent pretty, sometimes theyre rough, and sometimes they arent the friendliest places to be, but once you dig in your heels and dig under the surface of what youre given, theres a whole world of wonderment just waiting for you to explore."

If you arent following the PC indie game scene, youd be forgiven for thinking that Terraria is just a Minecraft rip off. Yes, it certainly borrows mightily from the now-iconic title to build its foundation, but Terraria, the 2011 indie darling, and new addition to the Xbox Live Arcade, layers on the one thing that Minecraft never really got around to: a game.

| Terraria successfully brings its delightful sandbox gameplay to consoles - GameZone review

GameZone: "It's been two years since Terraria landed on the PC and delivered one of the most captivating and memorable sandbox experiences that isn't called Minecraft. The game is now available on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, and with some additions and modifications, it's essentially the same great Terraria we were all very fortunate to play back in 2011. The controls can be a little iffy at times, sure, but the game works great overall, and the new content is worthwhile enough to warrant interest from both newcomers and longtime fans of the PC original."

Any classics-nerds want a side-scrolling Minecraft?
I'll be honest upfront: I've had issues with "build-it-yourself" stuff. I could build towers with Legos, I could build a cabin out of Lincoln Logs (remember those?), but I was never any good at building more complex things. Much as I love Sim City, I'm simply not good at it. I've avoided for that very same reason.

Laserlemming writes "If you have time to spare, Id recommend giving Terraria a go. Its simplistic 2D visuals belie an incredibly complex and rewarding game which gives back as much or as little as you are willing to put in."
