However look beyond the triple A titles and there are plenty of lesser known games that are worthy of your attention. Rumble Racing, released in 2001 by Electronic Arts, is an arcade style racer with hints of Mario Kart and Twisted Metal. Players have a choice of vehicles, which in turn, are tiered into 3 different classes, Rookie, Pro and Elite, which can be unlocked as the game progresses. Rookie cars will be slower, with little to no upgrades, Pro cars have aesthetic upgrades as well as speed boosts and more dynamic handling, whilst Elite vehicles have the best of everything.

Next to Twisted Metal, Carmageddon is perhaps one of the most fondly remembered vehicular combat series. Critics praised it, particularly the first two installments, for their irreverent style and over-the-top violence. However, a disappointing third title put the franchises future on hold. After multiple third party efforts at getting a fourth game off the ground failed, Stainless Games, developer of the first two entries, took to Kickstarter to generate interest in their dream reboot: Carmageddon: Reincarnation. Nearly two years and $600,000 later, the game is pre-alpha and is set to go into Early Access March 27. We here at OmniGamer were lucky enough to get a preview code for the title, and got to experience the chaos first hand.

PAX East will see plenty of big names descend upon Boston on April 11-13, from Microsoft to Oculus to Ubisoft to Square Enix. And plenty of you, I'm sure.
