When sister number one Maria is abducted into the Dream World, she is quickly captured and held captive by a giant evil-doer dragon, hell bent on enjoying a rare filling meal of unsuspecting teenage girl. With no means of escape, she must rely on her sister Giana (Giana Giana?) to come to her aid, and to slay the dragon. Now a teenager, Giana must also enter the Dream World herself to rescue Maria from the imminent fiery dragon death she faces. Luckily for Giana (and for her sister sitting comfortably in the belly of early said dragon), now in her teenage years can manipulate the Dream World, giving her the ability to jump between personas, allowing her a multitude of advantages that will help her bring her sister back to reality

Released in 1987, the original Great Giana Sisters attracted controversy for being a shameless rip-off of Super Mario Bros. With the threat of legal action from Nintendo, all copies were removed from store shelves and it instantly attained cult status. Thanks to last year's successful Kickstarter campaign by developer Black Forest Games, Giana and Maria are back with an energetic and original title that should keep the lawyers at bay.

Laserlemming writes "Twisted Dream is challenging, beautiful and incredibly fun. As a fan of the genre and the period of gaming that it so deftly emulates I would happily recommend it to anyone who pines for the days of the C64 and the Amiga and certainly to the few lucky people that managed to play the original. What a blast (and twirl) from the past!
I had no idea about this history of this one, but it's a fun one. Back in 1987, in the days when direct copycats of popular games were rampant across every platform, a near-port of Super Mario Brothers showed up on the Commodore 64 called Great Giana Sisters. And when I say "near-port," I mean "HOLY @%&$, IT'S A GOOMBA WITH EARS" reactions to figures throughout the game. The mechanics were the same, with jumping head-bops and fireballs and breaking bricks with your head (well, fist, but I still prefer the "hard head" impression), and it had no real character of their ownhellip; just the mark of "clone syndrome" that permeated the industry in the early-goings.
