Metro: One of the most iconic shooters of the modern era gets a remake for the Xbox One, with new graphics and new multiplayer. Halo might still be Microsofts biggest exclusive but no franchise embodies the Xbox brand better than Gears Of War. Violent, cocksure, technically impressive, and very obviously American Gears Of War is also one of the most influential video games of the last decade. And believe it or not it has been nearly 10 years since the original game was released on Xbox 360. A lot of effort has been put into this remake, but its to the games credit how nothing fundamental has had to be changed.

There is really little to say about Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, other than it feels like it was meant to be remastered, it just works. Gears of War is a great franchise that brought about a brand new type of shooter, and a fresh take on multiplayer. It is one of Microsofts strongest franchises and needs to be put into the spotlight. One thing is for sure, Gears of War is in safe hands.

VG: Gear Of War: Ultimate Edition is exactly the game you expect it to be. For those that still don't know what that is, it's the original in the series completely remastered so it looks pretty enough to justify running on an Xbox One. The real joy, however, comes in remembering just how good the first Gears Of War is.

Ben Salter of MMGN: Gears of War was a sight to behold on Xbox 360, and returns stunningly rebuilt for Xbox One. It remains the best in the series led by an action-packed campaign with impeccable pacing, and is the perfect example of a third-person shooter playing to its deliberate strengths. I'm sick of Ultimate Remastered Definitive Collection Editions this generation, yet I've loved every minute of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, a classic old enough to really benefit and be truly befitting of a re-release.
