With the heights that Saints Row the Third reached in humor and ridiculousness, it is hard to imagine where the game would go next. Volition and Deep Silver did not disappoint with Saints Row IV. The premise of this fourth entry is anything but simple, but the game manages to pull it off. After a series of improbable events, the protagonist (referred to as The Boss or The Playa throughout the game) finds himself/herself as the president of the United States. The presidential cabinet is filled with the main crew of the last game and other old faces stop by that fans of the series will remember. Oh and Keith David is the vice president. No, not Keith David voices the character, the actual actor is in the gamebecause why not?

With each successive installment of Saints Row, Volition has substantially upped the ridiculousness quotient, leaving Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto titles looking downright sensible by comparison. Saints Row IV represents another quantum leap in silliness for the franchise, but has the joke worn thin? Dildo bat in hand, Andrew Todd takes a look.

"The Saints Row series is perhaps one of the greatest modern examples of dont judge a book by its cover in video gaming history. The first game was widely written off as a GTA knock-off, and to be fair it mostly was. However, there were hints at greatness even then, from lightning you could summon with your cell phone to a voodoo priest that could revive dead allies as zombies. Having been there since the very beginning, it did my heart good to see the overwhelming positive reaction to The Third, and Volition has struck while the iron is hot with Saints Row IV. The project started as standalone DLC when the company was owned by THQ, and has now morphed into a full retail release. Many have been asking, is this worth the full price point knowing that? Yes. Yes it is." - Alex Santa Maria of Geekenstein

DSOGaming writes: "Ah, the beauty of SweetFX. Saints Row IV vanilla looks really blurry as Volition used a lot of low-res textures but thanks to SweetFX, the game's visuals get a bit better. Below you can find a comparison between our SweetFX settings and the vanilla version."
