Next Saints Row could "continue in a different direction"

Added: 08.07.2013 14:40 | 4 views | 0 comments

Design director Scott Phillips says Saints Row IV is conclusion of existing saga, future series entry could move in new direction.

If the Saints Row franchise continues past next month's that Saints Row IV is the conclusion of the existing saga.

"We're definitely considering Saints Row IV sort of the end of that saga of this character and the Saints as they are," Phillips said. "So if there's any more future Saints Rows--which you know we always hope there will be, we hope there's fans for future games like that--they will probably continue in a different direction."

Saints Row IV launches August 20 in North America. It follows past entries (2011).

The franchise was created by Volition and was published by THQ before the company went bankrupt late last year. The Saints Row series and developer Volition were during a January auction for $22.3 million.

Saints Row series may "continue in a different direction" after Saints Row 4

"I remember telling people, 'I don't know how we're going to top this'.".
The problem with going bigger, better and wackier every time your release a new game in a series is that eventually, you're going to run out of space. And wack. This is the problem Volition will soon face, once the latest Saints Row is launched on 23rd August.

Saints Row IV Preview | Splitkick

Splitkick: THQ has been shuttered, Volition was sold off to Deep Silver, and Saints Row: The Third came out less than two years ago. Itd have been very easy for this to be a cheap cash-in. Standing in the face of adversity, Saints Row IV seems to be kicking adversity in its un-American stupid alien face and laughing the entire time.

From GamesReviews: "Before THQ went under, the developers at Volition had been simultaneously working on Saints Row IV in which players control a gang Boss who becomes President of the United Stated, but Volition was also making a The Matrix themed DLC pack for Saints Row The Third. The two projects have been rolled together and now Saints Row IV lets players control a Super Powered POTUS!"

Polygon: ''Watson and his fellow modder Thomas "Minimaul" Jepp have run a website dedicated to Saints Row mods for years. No matter that Volition, the developer of the open-world series, never officially supported their efforts. They did it without help and quite literally for the love of the games. It's been a popular hobby. According to his statistics, the site has more than 36,000 registered users.''

OPM UK Saints Row 4 preview prime candidate for new highs in sandbox silliness

Added: 01.07.2013 21:17 | 35 views | 0 comments

OPM UK writes: An ode to the gaming odd couple. Where would we be without Ratchet and Clanks bromantic bickering or the gruff Mr DeWitt saving lovely Elizabeth from a metal budgie the size of an elephant? In that fine tradition, Volition now brings us superpowered politician meets giant mech. Saints Row IVs vehicles truly are every bit as crazy as the games deranged premise.
