Need for Speed: Rivals Xbox One Review | DigitalChumps

"Efficient" isn't a word typically used to describe a Need for Speed game, but it's the most fitting for Need for Speed: Rivals. Whereas 2010s Hot Pursuit revived the spirit of cops against racers and 2012s Most Wanted took us back to the open-world bliss of Burnout Paradise, Rivals feels like a careful arrangement of the best ideas from those two games (and delicately leaves 2011s The Run as a curious outlier).

| Review: Need For Speed: Rivals Takes Uninspiring To New Levels Of Beauty [eGamer]

Quote: "Need For Speed: Rivals does nothing special and as a result, is nothing special. It's a decent but uninspired offering. It's blandly beautiful and you would do well enough never giving it a go. However if you really must try out every NFS title and you enjoyed last year's Most Wanted offering, you might fancy Rivals as well. "

Stevivor's Nicholas Simonovski writes, "The involvement of Criterion in the Need For Speed franchise was not one without its share of criticism and scepticism from the fans. With both the release of Hot Pursuit and then Most Wanted, its debatable whether either of those two titles fit in with the previous games in the series. That said, while Criterion might have released two titles that felt more like a Burnout game with the NFS brand slapped over it, theres no denying that the contributions they made were invaluable. Reason being, while Most Wanted mightnt have been the game a lot of us were hoping for, without it, Im confident in saying that Rivals wouldnt have been as great as it now is. And let me tell you, this game is amazing."
