ZTGD | Need for Speed: Most Wanted U (Wii U) Review

Ken McKown writes: Need for Speed: Most Wanted was the closest Criterion has come to re-creating their Burnout franchise since Paradise. It is nice to see the Wii Us library grow, even if this addition happens to be a game from last fall, with a few new bells and whistles. The same meaty experience comes with enough new features to appease those that waited. While there might not be quite enough reason to double-dip, the new features easily make this the version to own.

While Need for Speed Most Wanted U may have launched a few months later than its console counterparts, the extra polish and attention shown to the Wii U version of the game make it the definitive experience. Co-driver mode adds features that enhance the game in both single player and when playing with a friend or family member in the same room. The enhanced visuals are a treat on the eyes and serve as one of the few times that a developer has shown this much care to a Nintendo port. If all multiplatforms were given this level of polish and attention to detail, I think people would be inclined to try third-party games on Nintendo consoles. If you own a Wii U, you owe it to yourself to buy Need for Speed Most Wanted U, not just because it is currently the systems definitive racing game, but because the level of polish on this game stands head-to-head with even Nintendos first-party offerings.

IGN:As with all sandbox games the narrative is of your own making but this is even more true of Most Wanted. The side-effect is that it can feel aimless at times. If you desire structure, if you wanted a game to be meted out to you, you might find its instant freedom somewhat overwhelming. But Most Wanted is all about deviation and deviance. Its the racing game for people who dont tend to like racing games. Youre not punished for missing that apex or abandoning that nagging racing line. Its undoubtedly one of the years most exhilarating experiences.

Tom Chick: "I suppose the gamepad is a valuable way to look at the map without calling up a fullscreen map view. But mostly, its a sadly missed opportunity in an otherwise great racing game."

MP:Need for Speed: Most Wanted U in fact enjoys the same texture assets of the counterparty PC, obtaining the result of a better definition, without burdening the frame rate, which has remained stable except for some light and occasional slowdown. In a sort of compensation, however, the developers have given an upgrade to the visual quality but also made a slight restriction on the online multiplayer component.
