The most important part of any Warriors-style game is the combat. And yes, this is a Warriors game. Square Enix calls it an action RPG because the company is afraid people will roll their eyes at the thought of another Musou game, which is an understandable fear.

Okay so Dragon Quest Heroes is fucking ridiculously good. I don't usually like Warriors (Musou) games, but dayum, son, this game is good. And yes, it's a Musou game. Square Enix likes to call it an "action RPG," which isn't entirely untrue, but its purely a marketing move. They just don't want you to be turned off by the notion of playing more Dynasty Warriors, which don't tend to be reviewed well.

Chalgyr's Game Room writes: All too often, the Warriors games get accused of doing the same thing year in and year out. Fundamentally they are quite similar, but the Empires series has always been interesting to me because it layers strategy over the top of the familiar Warriors action. The end result is usually my favorite in any series of Warriors games, and that still holds true with Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires.

It's in third person, you play as an incredibly powerful hero, and you slaughter hundreds upon hundreds of enemies with a mixture of strong, weak, and super attacks.
