"We feel like it's a pretty fundamental change to the second-to-second combat.".
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare's multiplayer will be playable for the first time at Gamescom in August, and according to Sledgehammer Games, it'll be quite the surprise.
Ex-Epic man delighted by team's "fresh enthusiasm" and "energy".
Former Epic Games bigwig Rod Fergusson is having a rare old time at Microsoft's Gears of War studio Black Tusk, by the sounds of things. It's not just that everybody at Black Tusk is mad keen about making games - Black Tusk has access to significantly more resources than the old Gears of War team did, back in the day.
But never fear, Respawn promises "NO MICROTRANSACTIONS".
I'm a sucker for booster packs. Whether it's an adolescence spent chucking pound coins at newsagents for football stickers or a masochistic desire for that "oh, I've already got that rare" feeling, there's something about tearing blindly into a packet of functionally useless ex-tree matter that just gets to me. Respawn get what I'm saying - just look at how pretty their virtual boosters are. I want one.
Last gen version scrubs up pretty nicely.
If you're among the players who can't afford a console that's younger than the average housecat, I bring glad tidings - Destiny on Xbox 360 looks pretty nice. Yes, that's the judgement of a techno-illiterate man whose eyesight has been corroded away by overmuch late-night blogging, but I challenge you to watch the video below and decide otherwise.
But wants "to do it a hell of a lot cheaper".
With Homefront: The Revolution, Crytek UK aims to "at least" match Ryse: Son of Rome's level of visual fidelity in places while delivering a much larger and more complex world, technical animation director Mark Jackson has told OXM.
Could DLC pack playable character also be the Arkham Knight?.
Now this is interesting. Batman News (via IGN) has gotten hold of a piece of Gamestop promotional material that suggests not one but two playable villains available in Batman: Arkham Knight bonus DLC.
Here are some more pictures of Agent Locke, world's happiest man.
Halo: Nightfall's Agent Locke sure doesn't smile much. You'd think a man holding a life-size (working?) replica of a Battle Rifle would pop a cheesy grin once in a while. But no - Locke is all business. Played by Mike Colter, he's "a pivotal new character in the Halo universe, who plays a key role in Halo 5: Guardians". Find pictures of the man below, care of Halo Waypoint.
"This last bit of time is about polishing the experience we want you to see".
When The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was delayed until 2015, we all took comfort in the fact that at least Dragon Age: Inquisition would allow us to indulge in some fantasy fumblings this side of Christmas. And whilst that's still the case, we'll now have to wait a few weeks longer than we first anticipated.
DICE wants to "create the best environment for a smooth launch for our players".
Remember when EA said Battlefield probably wouldn't become an annual franchise, and everybody scoffed, and EA looked all hurt and put-upon? Well how's this for follow-through: the publisher has delayed Visceral's police-themed Battlefield Hardline to early 2015, following mixed responses to the game's summer multiplayer beta.
Looking wheely good.
The first 100 cars for Forza Horizon 2, the upcoming open-world racer made by Playground Games (and Sumo Digital), have been unsheathed from their digital garage. And it's already looking like it's full of classics.

There's just over 24 hours to go till the Destiny Xbox One and Xbox 360 beta. All preparations are now complete. Aoife has retreated to Manchester, supposedly for work reasons but actually in order to escape the blast radius when Joe's home-grown Hype-O-Meter goes nuclear. Ed is writing about himself in the third person, the better to control his own volatile emotions. Jonty was last seen trying to flag down an imaginary Star Destroyer. How are your own preparations coming along? Got your beta key ready? If not, don't despair - Microsoft has a number to give away on social media.
"It's not how hard you can hit...".
No, that's not Master Chief doing the voice-over. Here's the original. Question for the thread: what do you think this trailer says about Microsoft's sense of its own standing at the time of writing?
Superheroic savings for those supernaturally enfeebled by a shortage of money.
The only "saving" Batman ever troubles himself with is the saving of Gotham City, but you, my friend, are not Batman. Wait, you are Batman? OMG. Permit us to play the part of Robin, then - Holy Belt-Tightening, Batman! Seems those handsome devils at Microsoft have cruelly mutilated the price tags of certain comicbook games on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Is that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game worth buying at half-price, Batman? Batman! Speak to me. Don't leave me here behind this desk, all alone with my dreams of heroism and adventure.
See the first image of Halo: Nightfall.
I don't even know where the Uncanny Valley is anymore. It used to be so simple - you'd look at that terrible Final Fantasy movie and go "they look a bit... off, right?". Nowadays, our new video game characters are being revealed by way of real people's faces, like some bizarre genetic advertising. Take Agent Locke, Halo 5: Guardians' mysterious new Spartan character, who we now know looks like "The Good Wife" actor Mike Colter. Because it is him. Sort of.
Early orders net you the Vanguard Armory.
Bungie might have copped some flak for its exclusive bonuses of late, but the game's newest trailer - arriving with GREAT COINCIDENCE shortly before the Xbox One and Xbox 360 beta is due to begin - offers a little something to all console owners.
"We really want to see what you can do with our platform.".
Microsoft's ID@XBox program has already attracted some pleasantly original projects, from the likes of White Night - key inspirations: Jazz, German expressionism, Alone in the Dark - to There Came An Echo, in which you boss Wesley Crusher around using Kinect. There's always room for more. "Surprise us," was the message delivered by the Xbox Advanced Technology Group's Martin Fuller at the Develop conference earlier this month.
How not to rescue a hostage, compliments of Ubisoft.
I'm calling it now - Rainbow Six: Siege is going to be the ultimate troll's game. The multiplayer seems tailor-made for a bit of no-nonsense obnoxiousness. Consider this: as the counter-terrorists, you'll be able to recon terrorist movements using a small drone, which skitters around the floor like a dangerously inquisitive pug. Were I playing the part of a filthy hostage-taker, I'd task one of my team with chasing that drone and sitting on it. Oh no! However will the boys in blue rescue the hostage when all they can see from afar is a terrorist's bottom? And what happens when the bad guys spill barbed wire all over the stairs?
Update 4 also features new Titan Burn Cards and a featured mode playlist.
Xbox 360 Titanfall players - your time is nigh. Titanfall's Update 4 is finally coming to your console after a month-long delay, and with plenty of bug fixes, general improvements, new Burn cards and a new game mode, it's worth the wait.
Misgivings about franchise and id Software "bother the hell" out of Bethesda's Pete Hines.
Bethesda's DOOM Xbox One announcement last week was a tactical gesture, according to Bethesda's vice-president of marketing Pete Hines - the game isn't, strictly speaking, ready for showtime, but the publisher and developer id Software wanted to reassure fans following allegations that the project up the creek without a paddle. This also means that the video aired to select QuakeCon attendees won't be circulated till 2015. Boo hiss.
Your activity feed gets an overhaul, and your friends get space on the homepage.
Joe spent his Friday dreaming up his ideal update features for next month's Xbox One console firmware update. As it turns out, he didn't have long to wait to see which of his ideas made the cut (spoiler alert: one).
