But it'll probably be really, really, really hard.
You'll have to worry about more than just the Alien in Alien: Isolation. Dotted around the Sevastapol's corridors are androids - harmless till somebody meddles with the tech under their supervision - and crazed human survivors - harmless till the player does something "aggressive", such as walking through the area where they're hiding. Or waving a gun around like you think you're a Colonial Marine.
Selling unfinished games raises "really interesting issue" for Chris Charla.
Ever hear of Steam? It's this indie PC storefront that's taken off in, I don't know, the last 50 years, or something. According to reports, Steam originates from a Valve, and now includes an Early Access programme whereby developers can release - and even sell - incomplete versions of their games. Sometimes this results in what is commonly known as "doing a Minecraft", where players effectively become co-developers, paying to contribute to the evolution of a brilliant game. Sometimes, however, you get burned.
"Choose at will in the game, instead of hiding behind menus and loads and lobbies".
A new Crackdown had been rumoured ever since one of its distinctive agility orbs was spotted on-stage at the Xbox One console reveal in May last year. It wasn't until just a few weeks ago that Microsoft confirmed the news with a CG taster trailer at its E3 media briefing - in which three agents co-ordinated their attacks to apprehend a Los Muertos kingpin.
Story, exploration, combat or customisation?.
BioWare will hold a panel discussion on 26th July at Comic-Con 2014, during which key staff will "share their experiences in shaping the next Mass Effect game with new possibilities while staying true to the critically acclaimed series." In the meantime, series producer Mike Gamble has a little questionnaire he'd like you to complete, in order to "help us make the next Mass Effect game the best one yet." No pressure.
Slice, dice... and riot in the name of social equality.
Ubisoft has released two new Assassin's Creed: Unity trailers, both of which are narrated by English people so utterly Engleeesh it's a wonder the Red Arrows don't erupt from your monitor's speakers.
"There is a lot of research going on.".
I spent quite a lot of last week listening to various highly intelligent people bang on about the potential benefits of remote processing, aka "the power of the cloud", at the Develop conference in Brighton, UK. Among these highly intelligent people was Mark Jackson, technical animation director at Crytek - a company that is reportedly undergoing something of a financial meltdown right now. Jackson wasn't able to comment on these claims on the record, but he was able to say a few things about how Xbox Live's scalable server support might be of service to animation departments in particular.
"We would be stupid not to".
Zoo Tycoon and Kinectimals studio Frontier Developments is currently working on the fourth instalment of in the Elite series, a space trading simulator and MMO set in a huge, persistent universe. The bad news is it's currently PC and Mac only.
"We make games here at Bungie. We love the people who play them equally.".
"It's time to stop being angry about Destiny," I wrote last week. Not everybody agrees, clearly. Bungie has once again taken to the internets to rebuff on-going complaints that it doesn't like Xbox fans any more, having signed a timed DLC and beta access exclusivity partnership with Sony.
Offers apply today only.
Morning all. Today is the last day of Microsoft's latest Ultimate Game Sale - and who better to polish things off than Sir Bioshock of Infinite, accompanied by his good friend Dame Modern of Warfare the Third. There's also Monsieur Painkiller de Hell et Damnation, because apparently no games sale is complete without an utter turkey or two to put everything in context.
Shocking, we know.
Not that it was ever in any real doubt, but Thunder God Raiden is officially coming to Mortal Kombat X. The confirmation comes after developer NetherRealm unveiled a gameplay video at the Evo Championship Series tournament in Las Vegas over the weekend.
Check out the teaser trailer inside.
It was, apparently, an announcement we weren't supposed to receive yesterday, but Tekken 7 has been revealed via an IGN video featuring producer Katsuhiro Harada, which AOL temporarily published, though IGN itself did not.
A little gallery of Colorware snaps.
The Xbox One, you might recall, is made of the "blackest black creatable". Its blackness is the blackness of a gravitational singularity, the blackness of ninjas and the smelliest mysteries of the human soul. This is very impressive, I'm sure we can all agree, but it's a little, well, sombre. Inclined to blow a fairly large amount of money on a cheerier paintjob? You should talk to the people at Colorware, then.
"Personally I'd love to see an AvP game with fully procedurally generated levels.".
Watch your back, Creative Assembly! Rebellion Developments is minded to have another crack at Aliens vs Predator, the franchise for which the Sniper Elite developer is probably most famous. That's according to head of programming Kevin Floyer-Lea, who also thinks that an AvP game that relies heavily on procedural generation could be rather entertaining.
15 minutes of gameplay in Redcliffe Castle.
I often feel short-changed by wizards in games - too often, they're just glorified ranged fighters with puny health bars. That doesn't appear to be true of the wizards in Dragon Age: Inquisition, certain of whom take the field in the 15 minute gameplay video below. The pyrotechnics on show are roughly on par with an Olympics opening ceremony - and these are just run-of-the-mill battles, don't forget. Dragon battles? Suffice to say that you may wish to upgrade your TV.
Rumours of a cross-gen port continue to gather steam.
We suggested in a recent Below preview that an Xbox One version of Dark Souls 2 would be unnecessary - between Capybara's dungeon crawler and the appealing if derivative Lords of the Fallen, there's plenty to enjoy on the console if you like your action-fantasy decrepit and punishing. From Software begs to differ, it seems. The developer's latest Souls game has now been listed for Xbox One release by Tesco Direct, bringing many months of rumours to a head.
4J "can see the light at the end of the tunnel".
Morning all. Here's a pinch of Minecraft Xbox One info from earlier in this week - according to Microsoft's Roger Carpenter, the game will support eight player multiplayer at launch, but 4J Studios plans to raise the headcount via downloadable updates.
Big words, varying file sizes.
It's become something of a clich#233; to ask about DLC before games have even been released, but Evolve developer Turtle Rock seems pretty open about its post-release intentions. In an interview with OXM, co-founder Chris Ashton stated that not only was Evolve built "from the ground up" (also a clich#233;) for DLC, but that it supports that sweet long-tail content "more so than any game ever before".
"What do you think happens next in this scene.".
Criterion is going "beyond cars". Or rather #beyondcars, if you're of the hyper-susceptible social media persuasion. Announced at E3, the Need for Speed developer's next game appears to be a first-person extreme sports or stunt-racing sim, in which you leapfrog from one mode of transportation to the other. The latest piece of concept art, below, certainly reinforces this idea.
343 takes to the stage at RTX.
I write these words from the midst of a presentation for Zoo Tycoon: Friends, Microsoft's recently announced mobile spin-off. It's a lovely-looking game, full of bouncy smiling animals and toe-tapping jungle tunes, and I am in no way in danger of being distracted by the below video, in which members of 343 talk for one whole hour about Halo: The Master Chief Collection at RTX 2014.
"It's just waiting for the right situations and deals to be done.".
There's been plenty of negative press about Crytek of late, so here's a ray of sunshine to balance things out - according to Crytek UK animator Mark Jackson, the studio remains absolutely nuts about the long-absent TimeSplitters series. Alas, today isn't the day for any concrete talk about a sequel.
