Zavvi drops console to #163;409.99.
Did you survive Christmas without buying a next gen console? This may be your cue. Zavvi.com has slashed the Xbox One's price to #163;409.99 - a whopping (not really) #163;20 off the RRP. Hopefully, it's the snowball that starts the avalanche.
Technical test represents a "small bit of the final game".
Outraged that you didn't get in on this weekend's Titanfall alpha test? Untwist your knickers. Respawn is mindful that players would like to try out a public (or at least more widely available) beta, according to community manager Abbie Heppe, and hasn't "ruled it out". The developer would also like to remind you that any naughty leaked footage you may have laid eyes on isn't representative of the final game.
A chain is only as strong as its weakest link in Turtle Rock's latest.
Spoilers: I will be playing 2K and Turtle Rock's Evolve soon, and have accordingly been re-familiarising myself with the decidedly niche subgenre of cinema that involves hunting space beasties in quasi-Vietnam-ish settings. That would be Predator, then, and, erm, Predators, the ridiculous 2010 flick in which lean, supple Adrien Brody tries to fill the city-sized crater left by Arnold Schwarzenegger's machismo. So pretty much just Predator then.
But was it a new Dance Central title, or something else?.
Internet sleuth Superannuation has revealed (via Kotaku) that Harmonix has cancelled one of its Xbox One exclusive titles. The company, which has had plenty of ups and downs in the past year, still has a few other irons in the fire, including Disney-themed Xbox One exclusive Fantasia: Music Evolved.
"I want to have a great E3 this year," says Phil Spencer.
Hands up who fancies a couple more Xbox One exclusive announcements in 2014. You? And you? Rejoice; Microsoft's Phil Spencer has confirmed via his Twitter feed that they're coming, and strongly hinted that this coming E3 will be a good one for Xbox fans.
Abilities, kits and Cores revealed by new footage.
Titanfall had a top-secret, highly hush-hush period of alpha testing over the weekend, as you may have deduced from an eruption of new gameplay videos. I'm not going to publish any of them here, because it would make uncle EA terribly sad, and the lawyers are on the warpath. Still, where's the harm in passing on a little info on loadouts? If you're desperate to see footage, there's always Youtube.
Preparation for this month's Operation Broken Eagle DLC, presumably.
Before you load up Dead Rising 3 again, give your broadband router a nice, lingering cuddle. Pat it. Stroke it. Put your mouth up to an Ethernet port and whisper sweet nothings. For soon, oh so very soon, the poor thing will swelter beneath the weight of a mysterious 13GB game update.
But online lobbies delayed until March, Double Helix reveal.
Oh Double Helix, why do you tease us so with pretty things we can't have yet? During the Play XBLA livestream on the 16th January(which is archived here), the team gave away some interesting tidbits on new character Spinal and other updates and fixes coming soon to the game.
Norwegian school using adventure game to teach secondary school students.
Back when I was at school, we used to be in awe whenever the television was wheeled out and a wizard sang about his "magic e" on a grainy VHS. Which explains my jealousy at seeing these kids from Norway getting to play The Walking Dead in their class.
Found hiding in a box, presumably.
If Snake - protagonist of the Metal Gear series of games - is famous for anything, it's his ability to sneak into heavily guarded areas without detection. Spare a minute's thought then for the list of achievements for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeros, as it appears they're not quite as good at remaining unseen.
Our regular round up of link-based goodness.
Have you checked our most excellent YouTube channel lately? You see, Jonty's started a Let's Play series in which he's taken members of the OXM staff and subjecting them to the horrors of extraterrestrial combat. (Insert "and in the game" gag here.)
You say goodbye, and I say Hollow.
You can tell the excitement for Dark Souls 2 is at an all-time high - Ed and Aoife have started building bonfires in the office again. While H&S has another word with them, you should take a look at the latest set of screenshots showcasing the world and characters of Drangleic.
Stargaze across these latest set of intergalactic images.
If there's one thing that's making that September wait for Bungie's next space-faring shooter epic that much harder - actually, scrub that, there's quite a lot of things - but especially the wealth of lovely looking screens coming out from the creators of the Halo series.
Insert Vader "Nooooooooooooooooooooo!" here.
If you listen closely, you can sense a great disturbance in the Force. As if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. The voices were those hoping that Disney would pick up the Star Wars 1313 license after closing LucasArts last year.
"We wanted to tell the next big story, not lots of little stories".
Last year's Tomb Raider was a most enjoyable romp, with a whole new Lara and an origin story that freed Crystal Dynamics to do whatever they wanted with the series. When it wound up, fans hoped for more Lara adventures potentially in the form of DLC - yet oddly, all the additional content that did arrive were cosmetic and additions to multiplayer.
Half an hour of new gameplay from the ninja reboot.
Killer Instinct developer Double Helix isn't one for resting on its laurels after giving one long-absent franchise a modern day reworking - they're also still working on a brand new Strider game for Capcom as well. Work continues apace, and Capcom has released new footage from the platfomer.
Over ten minutes of Garden Ops action from the Xbox One version of the game.
Battlefield-meets-Popcap in Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare out for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 next month, and while much of the focus so far has been on the competitive side of things, it's a welcome reminder that there's a co-operative side to the game too.
The first three Fables Albion-dled up.
Fable Anniversary is set to launch in just under three weeks time to the delight of those ready to return to where the saga all began. But what if you've never played a Fable before? Good news, as it seems Microsoft are launching a bundle of all three of the original games in the series.
Ultima Sports Ltd accidentally makes mention of forthcoming title.
A new Forza game could hit Xbox this year, according to manufacturer Ultima Sports Ltd. As spotted by Worlds Factory, the company's cars will appear in a "new video game to be launched later in 2014″, published by Microsoft.
"We all should be celebrating a healthy vibrant industry.".
This morning it was revealed that the Xbox One was December 2013's best-selling home console in North America. In related news, the internet has become a cauldron of fire. Now, Microsoft's PR chap Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb has taken to Reddit to applaud PS4's success, calling for diehards on both sides to cool their jets.
