When you die fighting time-travelling alien scum (one hit kills), you can use one of 30 "time outs" to have another go. The twist here is that your last self stays on the battlefield. So while you've gone back in time, any other versions of you play out their fates, until they either die, or their future is changed (by you killing their assailant). At this point you can then converge all timelines into one, 'stacking' your characters into a multi-purpose death machine. Simple.
If ever there was a game where the phrase 'you're playing it wrong' is probably accurate, it's this....
Only licensed fitness or dance games will be built now, says Kinect dev, "and even those will suffer".
Speaking to Develop, studio head Paul Mottram explained that he understood the reasons leading to Microsoft's decision, but that he felt sorry for Kinect developers who have "had the rug pulled from beneath them".
"We've been closely involved with Microsoft over the last few years and I imagine this decision wasn't taken lightly, but it's understandable as they need to compete with the PS4 on price," he said. "However, whilst it wasn't perfect, Kinect helped differentiate the platforms, which can only be a good thing.
"From a developer point of view it's a shame, as...
Pro-rata refunds to be offered once entertainment apps go free to all.
Those affected can request a pro-rata refund based on the amount of time remaining on their subscription. You'll be able to request a refund after the changes go live in June, and requests must be made before August 31, 2014.
"Once the Xbox One and Xbox 360 system updates become available in June, Xbox Live Gold members who purchased a paid membership before that day can cancel and receive a pro-rata refund of any unused remaining days between the date of cancellation and the date their paid Gold membership ends," reads an update on Microsoft's support site.
Latest patch hits Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and PC.
Available in private matches, Reinforce is described as a competitive round-based game mode that sees killed players stay out of the game until someone on their team captures a control point. Players win the game by capturing and holding two control points, wiping out the enemy team or capturing all three flags.
The patch also improves spawning during games of Free For All, Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed and Cranked, and rebalances a variety of weapons, including the Bizon, Vepr and CBJMS.
Gun Game players ought to get their throwing eye in order, too, with the final...
Could freeing up Kinect resources boost Xbox One game resolution? Microsoft in talks with publishers about possible performance gains.
Polygon's report states that Microsoft is "reexamining the Xbox One's hardware architecture" following its decision to unbundle Kinect from Xbox One, hinting at the possibility of resources currently reserved for Kinect being shifted elsewhere to help boost game performance.
Speaking to the site about the move, Xbox's Yusuf Mehdi confirmed that the platform holder is "in discussions with our game publishers about what we might do in this space and we will have more to talk about soon".
A Digital Foundry report posted last October revealed that Xbox One "reserves 10 per...
Kinect-less SKU to boost momentum but global sales will still be dominated by Sony, research manager says.
"This change will be enough to push the Xbox One installed base higher than PS4 in the U.S. and Canada in 2015 rather than 2016," Ward told GamesIndustry.biz following yesterday's U-turn.
"It kind of reminds me of Microsoft's evolution on Windows and IE. The initial design needs some serious help (i.e., last summer's DRM 'Xbox 180') and then improves to point of being a serious contender (this Kinect unbundling) and then vies for market share dominance (although I continue to believe PS4 will have the largest global installed base of any console at the end of 2016)."
Controller-based improvements coming to Xbox One user interface 'over the coming months'.
"We do want to find ways to give you some of those shortcuts and make some of the things that we have with Kinect easier with the controller," marketing boss Yusuf Mehdi revealed to Engadget. "You can expect to see us do a bunch of things over the coming months to make the experience easier and easier, even if you don't have a Kinect."
Kinect is currently used to quickly switch between Xbox One apps, record gameplay footage and turn on the console using voice commands.
Mehdi's comments follow Microsoft's announcement yesterday that it is to offer Xbox One without...
The latest figure marks a 500,000 sales boost since February, when the company revealed the game had sold in over 32.5m units. It isn't clear how many of those 33m have sold through to consumers.
And this may just be the beginning for GTA 5. Last night, Take-Two revealed that Rockstar was preparing a next-gen title for release before the end of March 2015.
Could it be a next-gen version of GTA 5...?

Microsoft marketing boss "really excited about E3".
Speaking to GameSpot about Xbox One's upcoming slate, Microsoft's chief marketing and strategy officer Yusuf Mehdi explained that the platform holder "really loved our competitive position with the first holiday, which I think most would say we had a stronger games lineup [than the competition].
"I'm really excited about E3," he added, "cautiously optimistic that we'll have the value proposition that is also a very strong, if not the strongest, games lineup for the second holiday."
Microsoft has already announced multiple major Xbox One titles due for release at the...
Speaking during Take-Two's financial results this evening, CEO Strauss Zelnick revealed that Rockstar is "hard at work" on their current line-up and that the firm is "very excited for what they have in store for next-gen systems this fiscal year".
Take-Two chose not to confirm whether Rockstar would be at E3 next month when asked during the call's Q&A session.
Rockstar has yet to formally announce its next title, although it's widely rumoured to be working on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One ports of Grand Theft Auto 5. Could this be it?
The PS4 version's performance comes in slightly lower than many had expected, with prior comments from Sony and Ubisoft suggesting that the game would run at full HD 1080p. Sony even went so far as to say that the game would run at 1080p/60fps on PS4, although its comments were later deleted.
"Resolution is a number, just like framerate is a number," creative director Jonathan Morin explained on Ubi Blog. "All those numbers are valid aspects of making games. "But you make choices about the experience you want to deliver. In our case, dynamism is everything.
Microsoft has announced that it will be shipping a Kinect-less Xbox One for £349. Steve Burns looks at the peripheral's past and Microsoft's future.
The removal of the hardware – maligned since birth, underpowered and overhyped – is a potentially positive (in a business sense), if embarrassing move for the Redmond firm. After all the talk of Kinect being intrinsic to the system, of Major Nelson telling Redditors that Kinect is "100%" in the firm's plans, many are going to feel let down by the latest in a long line of U-turns. It's easy to handwave that away as being the price of early adoption, but people trusted Microsoft and it went back on its word, no matter how beneficial it may turn out be in the future.
