Just like everyone's favorite rock supergroup, Call of Duty, Doritos, and Mountain Dew are teaming up again for a Black Ops III promotion. This time, it ties into the Zombies mode.
Activision announced that prospective buyers can double the XP earned in Zombies mode by purchasing Doritos or Mountain Dew. The XP progression system in Black Ops III is a first for a zombie mode in a Call of Duty game, and Activision wants to highlight that fact with the promotion.
I'm hopelessly terrible at all things Tetris, but I love watching high-level play. That means the Tetris blocks at Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) and Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) are noteworthy highlights, and this year's SGDQ was no exception.
Windows 10 is dropping this week, summoning the genesis of Microsoft's new era of operating system. As much as the overwhelmingly positive impressions from its beta have populated the internet, many consumers are apprehensive to invest in a new Windows operating system after the lukewarm launches of Windows Vista and Windows 8.

Super Mario Maker is undoubtedly one of (if not the most) exciting titles coming to Wii U this year. Not only does it take advantage of the GamePad in some interesting ways, it pays tribute to decades worth of 2D Mario games, including the original Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario World.

So did anyone really expect Pixels to be good in the first place? I mean, it's essentially constructed as a children's film that's bafflingly aimed at people old enough to remember '80s arcade games. Not saying that this couldn't work, but Futurama already did this just fine, thank you.
If there's one game I've played more than any other this Summer, it's probably Rocket League. The soccer/vehicle hybrid had some momentum leading up to its July release, but I don't think many people expected it to capture audiences like it has in its first few weeks. The game is small in scope, but it's structured in such a way that it appeals to the more competitive crowds out there. In fact, it's now an official eSports title. I doubt I'll ever be good enough to compete in official tournaments, but I certainly see why Rocket League continues to rise in popularity as it enters the competitive gaming scene.
Splatoon shipped with a limited amount of content back in May, but Nintendo has continued to support the game with frequent free updates. The next update hits Inkopolis in August, and it's the biggest one yet.
CD Projekt Red just knows how to do things properly.
While it won't have any free DLC for The Witcher 3 this week, the developer has announced that the final free DLC for the game will be New Game Plus. (Most games should get a New Game Plus, really, free DLC or not.)
When it comes to racing simulation, nobody has been doing it longer and with as much success as Logitech. It pioneered the multi-tier library by offering high-quality options ranging from the MOMO Force Feedback Wheel to the console friendly Driving Force GT and the widely admired G27.

Splatoon has been a hot topic among gamers this Summer. Although most of the discussion has been geared towards its competitive side, the discovery of some creepy sounds has been trending this past week.
This weekend is a significant one for the Halo universe. The Season 2 Finals of the Halo Championship Series kicked off featuring some of the most skilled first-person shooter players in the world battling for their share of a $150,000 prize pool. While the event is supposed to celebrate the Halo universe, in the case of Halo: The Master Chief Collection it has done more harm than good.
The Metal Gear Solid saga's story is a sprawling epic that spans eight titles already (if you include Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops). While it's difficult to know exactly what information is going to be important for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the game is set in 1984, in the middle of the Metal Gear's history and lore, and it's heavily implied the story will involve a young Liquid Snake, and potentially some of the histories of characters discussed in other Metal Gear titles. These videos will look at the story of the game series, with an eye towards what story elements may be important to The Phantom Pain.
