Telltale Games has released a new trailer for "Nest of Vipers," the fifth entry in its six-chapter Game of Thrones adventure series, and while it pains me to admit this, I can't drum up any excitement.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night didn't hold onto the title of "most funded video game in Kickstarter history" for long. Its campaign ended at $5,545,991, but that's just now been topped by Shenmue 3.
Players now are probably hoping for the drive to crest $6 million, which is a stretch goal for "Battle System Expanded: Advanced Free Battle." We don't know exactly what that is, but an expanded battle system sounds like something that could be a big step for the gameplay.
Apart from the obvious graphical enhancements, Uncharted 1 will be receiving several notable gameplay tweaks once Bluepoint Games finishes the upcoming port collection of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. So says Kotaku, at least.
Fallout Shelter, the free-to-play Vault-builder that was announced and then immediately released by Bethesda during its E3 conference, has earned $5.1 million in just its first two weeks according to research firm SuperData.
I'm 30 now. As some of you may know, my birthday passed earlier this month on July 7, and as a present to myself (treat yo self!), I decided to revive my love for one genre of games: board games. My roommate had been putting on episodes of Tabletop with Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton so much that it rekindled all those memories I had when I was a part of the Board Game Club back in Columbia University 10 years ago. (His purchase of Arkham Horror had something to do with it, too.) So on my birthday, I went on a shopping spree at Games of Berkeley and purchased two expansions for Arkham Horror, Legendary, Munchkin, and the brilliant Dead of Winter.
Some people buy games at a steady pace and focus on one at a time in an effort to get their money's worth. Others have an extensive backlog that grows every year and preys on the mind. I fall firmly into the latter category. But Summer is the perfect time to tackle that backlog, right? The wave of new releases doesn't arrive until September this year, so that gives me plenty of time to chip away at my ridiculous backlog. Sadly, that hasn't been the case... I think I have a problem.
You never know what might happen in FTL, and that's part of its excitement and frustration. On the one hand I love the unpredictability, but then a series of intruders boards your ship and your playthrough is over in the blink of an eye. Damn you intruders! On top of that the game throws asteroids, solar flares, ship fires, and plenty of other obstacles the player's way. It's certainly a challenging game.
I've spent the last few days playing Skyforge, the latest free-to-play game to appear on the MMORPG market. Although I won't be writing a final review until I've spent more time with the game, I felt that with the arrival of Open Beta today it's a good time to share my impressions up to this point.
Two nights ago I stayed up until midnight to make sure I was on my computer the moment Amazon's first ever Prime Day opened its virtual curtains. I had been avoiding purchases on the site for more than two weeks in anticipation of the event, under the assumption that its sales would be far-reaching and significant. After all, the retail giant said that Prime Day would be "bigger than Black Friday".
Just when you thought the Batman: Arkham Knight situation on PC couldn't get any worse, it looks like Warner Bros. won't have a fix ready for members of the "PC Masterrace" until well into September... if not later.
Capcom always has a good presence at San Diego Comic-Con, and this year was no different. With Street Fighter V as their flagship title, it's no surprise that it was the main draw at both this year's E3 and Comic-Con. However, the only noticeable difference between the content shown at both shows is that the public got to play the game at Comic-Con, and there was also a tournament. Since GR has already covered Street Fighter V extensively, I decided to focus on Resident Evil Zero and Mega Man Legacy Collection.
While StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void won't be out until this Winter, you can play a prologue of the expansion starting today.
Blizzard has announced that pre-purchase of Legacy of the Void is now available at $39.99. Those who order through Battle.net will immediately be able to play three new missions titled "Whispers of Oblivion" that tie the events of Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void together. In addition, pre-orders at select retailers will allow players to participate in the Legacy of the Void closed beta where units and buildings are still being tested for balance.
It's been a long road back to getting an official King's Quest title, with the franchise moving from developer to developer since the last entry in 1998.
King's Quest and other Sierra adventure titles may be a historical footnote in many ways, but they had a huge effect on culture even outside of the game industry. Heck, the 1988 Tom Hanks comedy Big even has a scene where the character's growth and increased maturity is shown when he finally is able to solve a puzzle in an adventure game clearly inspired by the series.
The abundance of HD remasters that come out every year distracts from new IP and original creations. It's become a notable point of contention for this generation of consoles, as every other game feels like a remake or remaster. I adopt a quality over quantity approach in life, whereas the HD remaster trend raises problems because of the number of re-releases.
SEGA hasn't done a particularly great job in handling the blue blur in recent years. From the lackluster Sonic Boom series to the supremely underwhelming Sonic: Lost World, it's been one miss after another for Sonic.

Cosplay is a big part of Comic-Con in San Diego, and attendees have the privilege of seeing costumes ranging from superheroes to TV characters, to clever mash-ups and gender-bending. Every year more and more people dress up in different costumes, and every year a once-unheard-of genre gains more numbers. That's right, the number of Steampunks at Comic-Con is always... ahem... picking up steam, and for the last several years there has been a popular Steampunk meetup on Saturday afternoon.
When PlayStation VP of publisher & developer relations Adam Boyes took the stage at E3 2015, few knew that it was the beginning of one of the most electrifying presentations in E3 history. Not only would the long-requested Final Fantasy VII remake be announced, but so would Shenmue 3.
Despite the excitement surrounding Shenmue 2 finally getting a sequel, the announcement of a Shenmue 3 Kickstarter during Sony's press conference last month at E3 definitely rubbed more than a few gamers the wrong way.
NOTE: Most of these days aren't live yet. Stick around and you'll see them introduced. In the meantime, buy yourself a Husqvarna lawnmower.
If you're an Amazon Prime member, then today is a big day for you. Amazon has debuted its first ever Prime Day, a 24 hour shopping event with Black Friday-esque deals. It's such a big deal that Walmart has responded, hosting a store-wide sale on the same day.
