Since the inception of Dynasty Warriors, many games have borrowed its formula with varied levels of success. From Gundam suits to heroes of time, players love the idea of being that guy or gal that can jump into a room and wipe out literally hundreds of baddies with a few well-timed weapon swipes.
**Spoiler Warning: This post contains a key spoiler regarding Arkham City's ending and another one for Arkham Knight from the first quarter of the game that ties into that ending.**
Franchises typically include a dark middle chapter, but Rocksteady's Batman trilogy saves most of the doom and gloom for its finale. Batman: Arkham Knight begins with a strikingly detailed cremation and then quickly transitions to terror and murder as its central antagonist Scarecrow infects Gotham. On some level it's familiar territory for The Caped Crusader, but the numerous threats feel more sinister in Arkham Knight. It's as if Rocksteady took notes from film director Christopher Nolan and decided to double down on themes of death and regret. As I continue to play the game, that darkness stands out as one of its defining characteristics.
When I first saw Sword Coast Legends back at GDC this year, I thought it was nice, neat, good, all of those harmless adjectives we use when there's just not much to write home about. It was a four-player dungeon crawler with the typical Dungeons & Dragons fantasy fare released in time to capitalize on the revival of classic RPGs like Pillars of Eternity. A thirty-minute demo showed a four-man group with a fighter, a rogue, a cleric, and a wizard moving from room to room in a cavernous dungeon, crawling with spiders, loot, and undead. Pinch me if you haven't heard all this before.
While at E3 2015 I had a chance to meet with senior development team members who work on Star Wars: The Old Republic. They had something new to share with me, an upcoming expansion titled Knights of the Fallen Empire.
Dr. Mario: Miracle Cure is a 3DS expansion of the classic gameplay with a few twists. Levels are split between classic Dr. Mario gameplay—in which you have to clear viruses by matching the color of the capsules to the viruses and match-4—and Dr. Luigi gameplay—basically the same except two capsules are dropped together in an L-shape.
Microsoft has unveiled a new model of the Xbox One themed after its upcoming racing game Forza Motorsport 6.
This limited edition Forza 6 Xbox One bundle comes with a 1TB console that sports a blue color scheme complete with flashy racing stripes, a digital copy of the game, and a custom boot-up sound that sounds like a car engine revving. Sounds like a car lover's dream, no?
I plan to have my review of Batman: Arkham Knight ready early next week, but in the meantime here's an episode of Challenge Accepted in which I play the game on hard mode. I didn't have too much trouble with the combat, but stealth proves to be far more challenging on hard mode. The Dark Knight doesn't like bullets in general, but that's especially true when you crank up the difficulty in Arkham Knight.
[Update 2] In response to all of the issues the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight is currently having, publisher Warner Bros. has decided to halt all sales of the game for the platform.
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation launches today on iOS and Android, Square Enix has just announced.
This mobile game serves as the final chapter in the Zenithian trilogy, and comes packed with a number of noteworthy features, including the ability to recruit a following of faithful companions that can be used to aid in battle, as well as a slime-sliding mini-game that has tasks you with safely making your way around various obstacles.

We also posted a trailer, so check that out too.
Persona 5 is expected to be released within 2015 for both PS3 and PS4.
One of the greatest additions of Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward are its unique limit breaks for all jobs. It's more exciting than ever to fill out three bars during an epic battle before unloading on an enemy.
At E3 I had an appointment for an "unannounced 2K game". That game turned out to be XCOM 2, a sequel to one of the greatest strategy titles of the past decade, XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Upon arrival at 2K's booth I was treated to a 15 minute demonstration that gave me a better idea of what to expect.
A quest in the upcoming Destiny expansion, The Taken King, can only be unlocked if you input a code from specially-marked Red Bull cans.
Activision announced a partnership with Red Bull where certain cans, to be available in July at 7-Eleven stores, will have codes that will award a 50% XP boost for 30 minutes and another that will unlock a timed-exclusive quest.
The Bulletstorm and Gears of War: Judgment developer has returned to independence, dropping the Epic Games Poland title and returning to its original name, People Can Fly.
What seems to be an official trailer for Persona 5 has been posted on YouTube and embedded above. Note that this could be taken down at any moment.
This trailer reveals tidbits of the story, with the protagonist in a prison or at least a metaphorical one. At the end of the trailer, we see that he enters the Velvet Room and meets Igor for the first time while he is in prison and that, unlike both Persona 3 and 4, the demon he invokes seems to take over his body ( line with the traditional SMT series).
I know the PC launch of Batman Arkham Knight has not gone smoothly so far, but I am not going to let that stop me from playing it. The Batman Arkham games are some of my favorite because of how well they've handled bringing the world of one of my favorite superheroes to life through an artform that I love.
[Update] Steam has been flooded with disappointed fans with the page receiving 4,923 negative reviews, more than twice the number of positive reviews. The game's PC page on Amazon currently sits at a 2-star rating. Online retailer Green Man Gaming will process refund requests for Batman: Arkham Knight if the upcoming patch currently being developed by Warner Bros. still does not amend the game. ~Ed. Nick Tan

"WeÄ‚Ë€â„Ëve spent a long time preparing for this launch after some difficult and unexpected set-backs," Sony boss Shuhei Yoshida said in a post on PlayStation Blog. "To make absolutely certain that all players have the smoothest and most stable experience possible we are going to be duly cautious about how we release the game this time around."

crarr;Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward continues the MMO trend of catering to fans of the series with a new Final Fantasy IV-style Dark Knight class, as well as references to Kane-like dragon-fighting dragoons.
