Out of everyone at E3 2015 this year, I wouldn't want to be the poor developer playing the demo for Dark Souls III. Any Dark Souls title, let alone E3 itself, is stressful enough without having an audience (myself included), who has waited an hour in line and is sitting in rows of stiff wooden benches, watch your every move in silent judgment. On top of that, the developer had to follow the instructions of the producer (Hidetaka Miyazaki) presenting the game with precision, he only had thirty minutes to finish the demo, and he did not have the benefit of having infinite health or stamina. I think you can tell where this is going...
The new Humble Borderlands Bundle features all things Vault Hunter. For just a buck, you can score the entire original Borderlands collection on Steam, including the DLCs The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned , Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, and The Secret Armory of General Knoxx.
Bethesda has two big role-playing franchises that have really resonated with gamers all across the globe. Both are completely open world and have seen multiple installments.
Do you prefer the Fallout series and its deserted, destroyed, and (sometimes) depressing landscape, chock full of history and iconic landmarks that once were? Or perhaps you lean more towards The Elder Scrolls and its fantastical world, populated by mages, dragons, and torch-lit caverns?
Between the larger-than-life booths from the Big Three platforms in the West Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center and the over-the-top creations of the major publishers and studios in the South Hall, NCSOFT quietly sat in a small cube in the Concourse Hallway in between. Had one not known it was there, it was certain they would be overlooked (and I did as I scoured the entire convention looking for them before I finally had to stop and recheck my convention map).
Today marks the official launch of Final Fantasy XIV's first expansion, Heavensward. I've been playing it day and night since Early Access last Friday and while I'm not quite ready to give it a full review, I have a wealth of thoughts to share about how my experience has gone so far.
F-Zero was reportedly going to have a new entry for Wii U developed by Criterion—you know, the super talented studio behind the Burnout franchise.
"The objective was to show off a playable vertical slice of the game at E3 which would give fans a taste of what the full release would entail," an undisclosed source told Nintendo Life.
Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki has made it known that he'd like to complete his entire 11-chapter story of the video game franchise he started on the Dreamcast. However, that would take more than just a third game, which was recently announced, and funded, on Kickstarter.
Walk with me through some of my earliest moments in games writing. I don't have a particular point here, other than simply sharing a fun thing a remembered and dug up just now. But still.
So Shenmue 3 is confirmed to be in development, right? As it would turn out, back in the day, we all thought that was already a done deal. It was "confirmed" multiple times by multiple sources, and yet, a 14-year darkness settled in somehow (2001 - 2015).
Here's the deal with that Tales of Berseria debut trailer above this text:
The leading lady is Velvet. She's 19.
She was happy and a family-lovin' girl until "the accident" three years ago.
She is pursuing "those people," which isn't racist, she is just referring to the people who did her wrong in typical vague Japanese communication.
The newest copy of Famitsu also tells us that Bandai Namco is going for lots of color in this new game. They want locations with very different climates and geography.
Tales of Berseria will be on PS3 and PS4. It doesn't currently have a firm release date.
Here we are at launch night of one of 2015's biggest titles, Batman: Arkham Knight. At this point we were hoping that we'd have a review of the PC version up, but we are yet to recieve a copy. Instead, Warner Bros. Interactive has decided to send us the PS4 version of the game last minute. We knew it was a bad sign.
This is not the collectible card game youÄ‚Ë€â„Ëre looking for.
WhatÄ‚Ë€â„Ës in a name? In the case of Stonehearth, the answer is irrefutably "Hearthstone, but jumbled around a bit." Fortunately for developers Radiant Entertainment, they arenÄ‚Ë€â„Ët going to find themselves on the receiving end of a nasty copyright infringement lawsuit from Blizzard, as Stonehearth was in development before the WoW creatorsÄ‚ËĂ˘â€šÂ¬Ă˘â€žË collectible card game. ItÄ‚Ë€â„Ës also nothing like Hearthstone, outside of a few monsters and sheep (though fortunately they are not of the explosive variety).
Developer Darkside Games was hard at work on the Phantom Dust remake for Xbox One until the studio shut down back in February. Since that time Microsoft has said development continues, but the project currently has no developer.
Project CARS came out just last month, but that isn't stopping developer Slightly Mad Studios from announcing the sequel to the popular racing sim.
In a post on the official website, the company details the development of Project CARS 2. It will be crowdfunded just like the original, so players will give feedback through the WMD Portal platform. Also, Slightly Mad Studios plans to add a bunch of new content to the sequel.
One of the more unique games at E3 this year was Q-Games' The Tomorrow Children, a PlayStation 4 exclusive first revealed at Gamescom last year. Following the event, company president and executive producer Dylan Cuthbert has announced a Fall 2015 release.
Although it wasn't playable, the biggest game at E3 this year was the highly anticipated Fallout 4. It comes out on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC this Fall, and Bethesda has revealed the technical specifications for all three versions.
While at E3 this past week I had a chance to meet with three members of Kunos Simulazioni, the Italy-based development team behind what I've consistently heard regarded as the most accurate racing simulator on the market. That game is Assetto Corsa, and as a car and racing simulator fan who had previously never experienced the title, I was excited to see why the game has earned its reputation.
In my predictions for Nintendo's E3, I wagered that there would be an announcement for a new Paper Mario. To be fair, I was partially right—a new Paper Mario was announced, along with a new Mario & Luigi.
A new segment of Rise of the Tomb Raider footage has been released, showcasing an extended look at the 'Siberian Wilderness' gameplay we saw during Microsoft's press conference at E3.
The fine folks over at Sony have just unveiled a new, 1TB-equipped version of the PlayStation 4.
By the end of the month, this new console will be available in Japan, followed thereafter by a release in the west. Specifically, the console will be available in Europe and PAL territories on July 15. We still don't have a confirmed North American release.
