Chalgyr's Game Room writes: The Atelier series of games have long been a favorite here at Chalgyr's Game Room. While it still fits within the JRPG realm of games, the Atelier series is something a little more and something quite different. The primary focus of the majority of the Atelier games is actually running / managing an alchemy shop with reagent grinding taking place between orders for potions. A welcome and unique twist, one that sets the Atelier series apart from other roleplaying games. Atelier Ayesha was originally released for the PlayStation 3 back in March of 2013 and is now ported to the PlayStation Vita. While previous Atelier games took place in rich and vibrant worlds, Atelier Ayesha Plus takes place in the Dusk World which is on the brink of ruin.

When I dived into Atelier Ayesha Plus for the first time; I fooled myself into believing it was a combat heavy, niche, RPG with some character interaction and a small minigame to make potions. I don't know why I did and for the first half of the game I was conflicted why I kept playing a game that was the opposite of what I liked in a regular RPG. In reality this was exactly that and it was I who had forgotten what a RPG is.

Especially since games like Atelier Totori and Meruru left me constantly worrying if I was exploring, crafting, and battling at the right rate. There is a sense of pressure here, which someone can increase by opting into the Hard mode, but I never found myself reaching the two year point, realizing I probably wouldnt have a shot at saving Nio, and feeling dejected as a result."

PSLS writes: When I think of PlayStation Vita ports, I usually think of PS3 or PS4 games that have been slightly dumbed down, maybe in terms of graphics, or maybe theyre missing some fun pieces of DLC (Im looking at you Borderlands 2 and Resogun). While it only makes sense that the port is slightly lacking, considering it is being taken from a full-sized console and being jammed into a handheld one, it can still be annoying to find that the game you once thought looked so impressive on the PS3 now looks a little fuzzy on the Vita. On the flip side, however, it is always incredibly refreshing when a port actually looks magnificent on the PS Vita and includes a crazy amount of DLC, which is why I enjoyed my time with Atelier Ayesha Plus: The Alchemist of Dusk a great deal.
