Bungie's own Luke Smith revealed that Xur's new "three coins" consumable in The Taken King, which buffs exotic drop rates for in-game bosses, will only be acquired by gambling Strange Coins. "What Xur has on him is an item that lets you basically gamble the chance to find an exotic on the next boss you kill." Smith also said that the gamble would pay off in dividends, though: I got more exotics in the first weekend while testing the buff than I've ever gotten in Destiny before."

Destiny: The Taken King is almost here. The new expansion pack (possibly the first of Destinys to actually earn that title) is going to bring a significant overhaul to the game everybody loves to hate on, and yet play regardless anyway, possibly bringing it closer to the initial promise that so enamored everybody.

Forbes: The Sony exclusives seemed to be lessening with time, and by The House of Wolves had only been relegated to a single multiplayer map. But now in year two, were back to pretty significant content being stuck on one console, another Strike, at least one exotic weapon, armor sets for each class, and so on. The problem? PlayStation exclusive content makes Destiny a worse experience for everyone, not just Xbox players.
