Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams - GR Review

What a blast (and twirl) from the past! I had no idea about this history of this one, but it's a fun one. Back in 1987, in the days when direct copycats of popular games were rampant across every platform, a near-port of Super Mario Brothers showed up on the Commodore 64 called Great Giana Sisters. And when I say "near-port," I mean "HOLY @%&$, IT'S A GOOMBA WITH EARS" reactions to figures throughout the game. The mechanics were the same, with jumping head-bops and fireballs and breaking bricks with your head (well, fist, but I still prefer the "hard head" impression), and it had no real character of their ownhellip; just the mark of "clone syndrome" that permeated the industry in the early-goings.

FEZ writes: The game was just fun, and though I felt like certain story arcs were brushed under the rug for the sake of the big stuff, the game was well-rounded and kept me playing for hours on end. It was a short experience, but a good one, no less.

ZTGD | Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams (Console) Review

Dave Payerle writes: There was a time, many years ago, when I was really good at 2D platformers. With steel nerves and lightning-quick reflexes, I could navigate any set of obstacles. Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams reminds me of those classic experiences, only its much prettier, and Im much slower than I used to be. Its a stylish twist on a classic game type, and the best of its kind Ive played in a long time.

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams XBLA Review [Capsule Computers]

Simon Wolfe of Capsule Computers writes: "While originally released for the PC back in October of last year, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams finally made its way to consoles, so that those that aren't as interested in PC gaming would be able to get their hands on the title that found success through Kickstarter. Finally back on consoles since the release of the original The Great Giana Sisters, just well how does the game stack up as an XBLA title?"

OXM UK: "Developer Black Forest Games has made its meagre budget go a very long way. This is a pretty, inventive platformer that demonstrates both a clear affection for the original and a willingness to try something new. It might not come close to unseating the genre's best, but if you're up for a challenge, then this is a minor gem."
