Last-Gen Hardware Holding Back PS4 and Xbox One, Says Dev

Added: 07.02.2014 13:12 | 5 views | 0 comments

PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are holding back development on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, according to Chris Payton, the head of art on Sniper Elite 3.

In an interview with NowGamer, Payton explained why developing for multiple generations of gaming hardware is problematic, noting that it becomes difficult to take advantage of new hardware when you have to still work with older tech in mind. Historically, there has always been differences between platforms. A certain platform has been better than another, allowing you to do more. What's difficult about that is that if you're building a game for multiple systems you have to bring your game down to whichever one is the lowest of the three. That's the only way to really make equal across platforms. When do you think we'll finally see cross-generational development get pushed aside so studios can focus solely on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One? I'm hoping it's sooner rather than later.
