Driveclub - GR Review

Driving a wedge.
Supporting Driveclub is a matter of hope. As a PlayStation exclusive, a fresh IP in this powerful console generation, an opportune offering after the lukewarm reception for franchise, and a comeback for Evolution Studios, it doesn't need to twist anyone's arm to garner support from the community. The limited but free PlayStation Plus version of the game doesn't hurt either. However, in an attempt to carve out its own identity in the racing genre, Driveclub ambitiously navigates the gray zone between the casual racer and the simulation racer, and while it finds several moments of brilliance, it ultimately gets lost in the fog.
Determining which parts of Driveclub are more arcade and which are more simulation might be troublesome at first. The lack of a racing line, the inability to tune or upgrade vehicles, and the steady accumulation of fame points over the course of a race firmly plant the game in the arcade wheelhouse. Then again, the promotion of the Thrustmaster racing wheels (), the numerous challenges for drifting, cornering, and average speed, and an emphasis on proper braking and turning would counter that appraisal. As nebulous as "semi-casual" or "semi-pro" might be, that's the only way to describe Driveclub's chimeric design.

Eurogamer writes " What we're left with is a flimsy framework - a sort of clothes horse for content - rather than a truly great racing game. DriveClub is patently intended to attract a global, interconnected audience of fiercely competitive racers but, to quote the increasingly obscure 1989 Kevin Costner film Field of Dreams: if you build it, they will come. And, unfortunately, Evolution hasn't quite built it."

Drew Leachman writes: After being delayed close to a year, Driveclub finally hits the PlayStation 4. After a back to the drawing board session to rework a few things, Evolution Studios hopes to bring players a more social way to race. For the most part, they succeeded, but in some aspects, I feel like the game still isnt ready to come out.

Football is a funny thing as it can take a fan on a rollercoaster of emotions, from the highs of winning the Premier League to the lows of relegation and losing to your rivals. And youd think it would be a tough job to replicate these moments and emotions within a videogame, but over the past five or so years, EA have become the masters of Football simulation. Now up steps Fifa 15, a game that plans to continue the series domination over the Pro Evolution Soccer franchise.

Obviously The DriveClub Oath is supposed to be over-the-top, right? Sony and Evolution arent expecting us to shed blood in honor of our team of online miscreants. Do they truly believe that well place our Club over our interpersonal relationships?

While everyone is very fond of screenshots, Driveclub's beuty is hard to fully visualize in still gameplay shots. Evolution poured a lot of resources into effect that can be appreciated only in motion, and the difference really shows.
