Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag makes landfall in the UK and US tomorrow, 29th October, for Xbox 360 and PS3 - the next generation versions of the game will follow in November. Once upon a time, it might have faced a frosty reception, but Ubisoft appears to have won over those put off by Assassin's Creed 3. In the absence of stablemate Watch Dogs from the winter 2013 line-up, Black Flag looks very much like the multiplatform open worlder to beat.

Special editions, collectors editions, ultimate editions and legendary editions are all one in the same. Fancy names slapped on a package that ships with a multitude of collectibles, merchandise and memorabilia for a few extra bucks. It's definitely a form of consumerism but when you're a fan of a certain game, none of that matters.

MS:After fighting our way through the newborn America, Ubisoft takes us back to the past to relive the Golden Age of Pirates with the most polished Assassin's Creed experience ever made. The core mechanics look better than ever, although they are going to need freshening in the next iteration. A true pirate's life, the whole Caribbean is ours to enjoy what we do best in the series.
