Cel Damage HD - GR Review

Added: 06.05.2014 21:50 | 7 views | 0 comments

That game from way back when...

And yet here we are, with an updated version of the 2001 vehicular combat title. I imagine I'm not alone in my unfamiliarity with the original game, a forgettable release in a sea of forgettable releases. It marks Cel Damage HD as perhaps the oddest HD re-release yet, but it doesn't result in a total disaster. In fact, Cel Damage HD's emphasis on vehicular mayhem appeals to my younger self and provides enjoyable competition with AI and/or friends. It also shows its age—make no mistake, this game still feels like it came out 13 years ago. Thus, Cel Damage HD hovers just above mediocrity.

Cel Damage HD consists of three game modes: Smack Attack, Gate Relay, and Flag Rally. Smack Attack is all about crushing the opponent, quite literally. Players drive around and pick up various weapons in order to wreak havoc on their opponents and be the first to accumulate 300 "smacks" (basically hits). Gate Relay clearly takes inspiration from , in which players race and pick up weapons along the way to edge out the competition. Flag Rally—easily my favorite of the bunch—requires players to pick up a certain number of flags and return them to an area on the map, all while avoiding the bloodthirsty ire of opponents as they try to collect flags for themselves.

TownCraft review at CalmDownTom

Added: 06.05.2014 18:15 | 8 views | 0 comments

CalmDownTom takes a look at building game TownCraft. "TownCraft, as the name suggests, is a town building game from Flat Earth Games for the iPad and iPhone. Players start the game finding themselves in the middle of an area in which they must use the resources around them to build a town fit for a royal visit. The tutorial level explains that you need to craft everything from the ground up and introduces the concept of combining objects you find to make items. Combining a stick and a stone for example will create a stone axe. You can then use the axe to cut down trees so that you now have logs. Combining logs and an axe gives you a woodworking bench which refines cut trees into either planks, poles or wooden rounds. " says CalmDownTom

Enemy Front Preview (Strategy Informer)

Added: 30.04.2014 16:19 | 0 views | 0 comments

From Strategyinformer.com: "It's certainly been a while since we've had a World War II FPS. Go back ten years and you couldn't move for them. Medal of Honour, Call of Duty 1 and 2, Return to Castle Wolfenstein a seemingly never-ending avalanche of games that ensured MP40s, stielhandgranates and Flak 88s became as familiar to gamers as cats and dogs. This was the Tyrannosaurus Rex of popular genres, striding across the landscape of PC gaming devouring all competition. Then, just like that dinosaur metaphor, it outstayed its welcome, and the genre all but disappeared from our computer screens. Until now. Enemy Front is promising a return to the heady days of a one man (generally American) army storming occupied Europe".

Why Thralled is the Future of Video Game Storytelling

Added: 30.04.2014 0:14 | 6 views | 0 comments

J Station X writes "When Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag launched last year I praised it and included it on my list of PS4/Xbox One launch titles to watch. It had a white protagonist but (on PlayStation) it let you play Aveline, a mixed-race woman whose mother is a slave and it introduced us to Adewale, a former slave who became Edward Kenways First Mate on the Jackdaw. In AC4 slavery is undoubtedly a focus of the game, with plantations as common as the hairs on your head and slavemasters being met with the pointy end of Edwards sword more than a handful of times, but many aspects were jarring and being told that youd freed 8 out of 10 nameless slaves in a series of optional mini-games didnt feel like it did the realities of slavery much justice. There has to be a game that depicts the horror of slavery right though, gaming needs its 12 Years a Slave or its Django Unchained* and new game Thralled is set to be the story telling masterpiece to do it."
