How to fix Nintendo

Added: 10.05.2013 8:17 | 7 views | 0 comments

The bad news keeps stacking up for Nintendo. The Wii U console was greeted with yawns when it was released in November 2012. Sales numbers for the console look increasingly dire, and support from third-party software publishers seems to be wavering (EA's next-gen Frostbite graphics engine apparently doesn't even work on the Wii U). And now comes word that Nintendo won't have a formal press conference at this year's E3 show. Is Nintendo's low profile at E3 a retreat, or a change in strategy? Whatever the answer, it seems perfectly indicative of Nintendo's current status: an enigma in the landscape of 2013 video gaming.

News: 15 Frostbite 3-powered EA titles to skip Wii U

Added: 09.05.2013 11:32 | 3 views | 0 comments

Engine isn't supported on Nintendo's home console.

It makes sense for EA to make full use of its powerful in-house game engine, but the knock on effect on Wii U could be catastrophic. Wii U is not a supported platform for Frostbite 3, meaning these 15 titles are unlikely to be released on Nintendo's struggling console.

"[Frostbite 3] has never been running on WiiU. We did some tests with not too promising results with [Frostbite 2] and chose not to go down that path," Tweeted DICE technical director Johan Andersson.

So which games will the Wii U miss out on? EA has announced Battlefield 4, C&C Generals, Dragon Age...

Avalanche Studios may not focus on Nintendo's new console until it gets a higher user base.

Avalanche Studios, the team behind the Just Cause games, said that they may not focus on developing games for the Wii U.

Avalanche founder Christofer Sundberg said on ) that the Wii U's user base wasn't big enough to justify investing the company's time on Nintendo's console. "We actually had some development kits that just collected dust. It's a bit sad, because we wanted to do something. I think it is a cool platform, but right now it's not just up to us. We want the game to reach as many as possible."

He also added that he and his team had trouble communicating with Nintendo, saying that the company had always been difficult to reach. "You never quite know who to contact."

Avalanche Studios isn't the only developer expressing concerns for the console. that its Frostbite 3 engine did not produce promising results on the Wii U.
