He Said/Ubi Said - Thoughts about Desilets versus Ubisoft

Added: 08.05.2013 0:17 | 10 views | 0 comments

Mike writes, "On one hand, you have a game developer who is passionate and driven and is trying to create something in the face of the corporate bottom line, who is being impeded and screwed over by The Man. Then again, Ubisoft's quote that "the good faith discussions between Patrice and Ubisoft aimed at aligning Patrice's and the studio's visions have been inconclusive" is basically a carefully worded way of saying "He was a pain in the ass and fought us every step of the way, so we turfed him."

Patrice Désilets Fired By Ubisoft

Added: 07.05.2013 21:30 | 5 views | 0 comments

Ubisoft announced today that Patrice DeĂłsilets is leaving Ubisoft. DeĂłsilets helped create Assassin's Creed for the publisher back in the day and then left to start up his own thing at THQ Montreal. Once Ubisoft bought that studio, he was brought back into the fray at Ubi, but apparently that arrangement didn't last long.

[UPDATE] Patrice D#233;silets says Ubisoft terminated his position today and did not allow him to collect personal belongings.

[UPDATE] Following the publication of this story, D&eĂłsilets told that he was fired and claims Ubisoft's actions are "baseless and without merit."

"Contrary to any statements made earlier today, this morning I was terminated by Ubisoft," Desilets told Polygon. "I was notified of this termination in person, handed a termination notice, and was unceremoniously escorted out of the building by two guards without being able to say goodbye to my team or collect my personal belongings."

"This was not my decision," he added. "Ubisoft's actions are baseless and without merit. I intend to fight Ubisoft vigorously for my rights, for my team and for my game."

The original story follows below

Assassin's Creed creator Patrice D&eĂłsilets has left Ubisoft for the second time in three years, a company spokesperson has confirmed with .

That has now changed.

"The acquisition of THQ Montr&eĂłal in January allowed Ubisoft to welcome 170 experienced developers, including Patrice D&eĂłsilets, to our existing and renowned workforce," a Ubisoft representative told Kotaku in a statement.

"Unfortunately, since the acquisition, the good faith discussions between Patrice and Ubisoft aimed at aligning Patrice's and the studio's visions have been inconclusive," the statement goes on. "As a result, Patrice has left the studio. Our priorities remain with the teams already hard at work on projects in development. They are at the root of Ubisoft Montr&eĂłal#233;s past and future successes."

As part of .

Sources have told the GameStop-owned that these projects may have been canceled altogether.

PixlBit | "Hey! Listen! We have a big show for you this week, and we kick things off by talking about how awesome Felicia Day is before Patrick gives us the lowdown on the c2e2 convention. Is that Jeff Green guesting on our show? Not quite, but Angelo sounds a little bit like him, and he drops by to talk about Nintendo and other fun things!"

Postcard Review: Patrick Stewart-infused Castlevania

Added: 06.05.2013 18:18 | 4 views | 0 comments

(Editors note: In this feature, members of the Pixelitis staff write small, easily digestible reviews big enough to fit on a postcard hence the title. It can be about the whole experience or just a small piece of the pie. No scores needed.) "Castlevanias 3D offerings never took off the way Konami probably wanted them to, so with Lords of Shadow, it made sense to give a Western developer a shot at rebooting the series. In some ways it felt that MercurySteam, whose game was originally not a Castlevania title until Hideo Kojimas intervention, took the reboot aspect too far, borrowing less from previous Castlevanias and more from other 3D action titles like God of War." - Patrick Kulikowski

Koopa Soundworks World 1-2 is an epic game music collaboration

Added: 03.05.2013 10:17 | 13 views | 0 comments

"What happens when you lump Mega Man, Journey, Spelunky, Ninja Gaiden and Silent Hills composers together with game music cover groups like Stemage, Danimal Cannon, Video Game Orchestra and more? World 1-2, thats what. Koopa Soundworks Mohammed Taher has amassed a musical collaboration of epic proportions, bringing game composers like Manami Matsumae (Mega Man), Austin Wintory (Journey), and Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill) and indie videogame music cover artists aboard to create both original, game-influenced music and VGM remixes for the masses. Games like Metroid Prime, Sword Sorcery, Super Mario World and Final Fantasy Tactics are covered, and the genres widely vary from electronic chiptune, orchestral and some shredding metal. Its a lovely ear orgasm." - Patrick Kulikowski
